5.0 out of 5 stars Tripod upgrade 6 July 2012
By Graham
Verified Purchase
Havineg an expensive digital camera fitted with a large heavy zoom lens I needed to replace my existing lightweight aluminium tripod. The Manfrotto tripod kit arrived well packaged, easy to assemble.
Once I familiarised myself with its easy adjustable height, tilt and panning features I fitted my camera and was more than happy that this tripod would carry the weight and remain as a steady platform on uneven ground and in stiff breeze.
A great value for money item,

5.0 out of 5 stars Manfrotto tripod 17 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase
This Manfrotto tripod is an upgrade from a relatively cheap and flimsy Velbon (which was bought for its inexpensiveness, light weight, and expected lack of serious use - in respect of which it was excellent).
The Manfrotto is very sturdy and beautifully engineered, the all metal construction (especially the head) making it feel entirely secure; I look forward very much to putting it through its paces.
If I have any reservation at all, it will be that there is remarkably little upward tilt (30 degrees max.), making it awkward for 'overhead' astrophotography (one of my main reasons for purchasing it); all is not lost however, as the quick-release shoe could be attached to the camera the 'wrong' way around (rotated through 180 degrees) with the head being operated 'in reverse' (as it were). I am very pleased with this; excellent value at less than 100.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb but a bit heavy. 15 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase
I was very surprised when it arrived within two days of ordering ( congratulations to Amazon and Yodel). On opening the very well packed parcel, I had it set up and all bits connected within 5 minutes. (One word of warning, remember to tighten the three grub screws under the top plate or else you might lose them. They were quite loose on delivery.) The tripod itself is a great piece of engineering as is the 3way head. I was pleased to find that even without raising the centre column, my viewfinder was at eye-level. The whole thing is very stable even in VERY strong winds and could be even steadier if I opened the legs to the wider setting but of course that would lower the camera. However I managed to get some super shots of waves breaking at Porthleven during last weeks gales (Feb 2014.). And that included winds of 90 to 100 MPH, so I can fully recommend this tripod/head combination.

I was looking at the travel option and this tripod for a gift for my girlfriend. I also wanted to get her the bag so opted for this in the end. I saw this got great reviews on here and on indepentdent camera sites.

It is aof solid construction, I was a little concerned it would bee heavy. However it is very light and very robust, aqlso a decent weight. So doesn't get blown over in wind. Obviously it will be dependent upon the strength of the winds. I wa son our rooftop in london taking the picks of NY fireworks in our local area. It gets windy up there and all photos exposed really well. Lovely and sharp.

I know a litle about photography but not pro by a long stretch but I would say you cannot go wrong with a manfrotto. However I do haave maates who are estaablish pros and they also say manfrotto is the way to go. They rocj much more elaborate configurations but this tripodd comes with a solid head and can be replaced at a later date with a more functional head for your needs. A great litle buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb product 22 Jun 2013

Absolutely superb product. Debated for ages about a new tripod and when in the USA looked in the shops and benefit was that you could physically play with the tripods as opposed to just reading reviews. This tripod felt the most stable and solid out of the range I was looking at. Used at a wedding a couple of weeks ago at which is was practical held my Canon DSLR with battery pack and heavy lens with no problems or issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dependable tripod that isn't too dear 3 Jun 2013
By Scottie

In over 50 years' photography I've owned several tripods, some better than others, the main snag of the best being its weight. After reading various reviews I decided to go for a Manfrotto 294 aluminium one complete with a Manfrotto 3-way pan and tilt head. When it arrived - extremely well packed - I was surprised to find that the head was already fitted, contrary to what I had expected, and all I had to do was to fit the handles on the head. I have used the tripod several times already and I'm very pleased with it in every way. Having used its predecessor for several years I had to adapt to a new way of setting it up and it proved very easy and simple to use. I can recommend this tripod from every respect - cost, build quality and ease of use. The head on my older tripod also has a Manfrotto head which has the same quick release plate so I'm now able to have a plate on my Canon body and one on my 70/200 L lens!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top marks for this mid-weight tripod 19 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase
I have been a user of various Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods over the years. I came to this one by way of a somewhat lighter model which was not tall enough. This on meets all my needs in every way. I strongly recommend you check out the video of it being demonstrated to give you a good idea of just how tall it really is. For me at 6' it meets my requirements fully AND of course it has all the build quality we have come to expect from such a brat tripod manufacturer..
