5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Product, 29 Dec 2007

This review is from: Manfrotto 486RC2 Ball Head with QR Plate (Electronics)
I got this ball head as a christmas present and am absolutely delighted with it. Manfrotto makes quality products at a decent price. I previously used a tripod that had an annoying video head on it which meant that any tilting off to the side was impossible with the head. This ball head is a godsend, you loosen the one bolt, move the camera where you want it then tighten the bolt again. Job done, quick and simple.

There are two notches cut out so you can tilt your camera over to portrait format. When you loosen the bolt the whole head can rotate so you can position those notches where you need them before tightening everything up.

The quick release plate is small and can be left permanently on your camera. When it is clipped to the head it connects smoothly and stays put. There is a secondary safety catch that engages as well so there is no chance of mistakenly unclipping the camera.

A real high quality head that offers lightning fast adjustment.

5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff, 26 Mar 2009

I bought Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head with 190XPROB tripod and it appears to be a good combination. It's a bit heavy compared to my previous tripod, but much robust and easy to use. I have Canon 5D with various lenses and the ball head copes with the weight well at any angles. I am pleased of my new gear.
Amazon works efficiently. The stock of the tripod runs out but I got it fairly quickly. Good service.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, if a little big, 2 Feb 2009

This guy is excellent. It holds up to 6kg (which is ALOT of gear) and only weights 0.46kg. However, it's quite large (search flickr for 486RC2 for photos of it in context) so if you're looking for something a bit daintier, go for the 484RC2.

The mounting plate is big enough to engage the safety screws in my tripod which is a bonus (484RC2 has a smaller base). Also comes with a warranty, and the locking screw can be pulled out and reposition if you find it gets in the way of your camera or tripod.

Only four stars as it doesn't come with tension adjustment or an independent pan lock, but I knew what I was getting when I bought it.
