Product Description

Product Description

The fastest tripod in the world! Awesomely fast and easy to use, the 458B has the innovative Neotec rapid opening and closing mechanism-just pull each leg downwards to open and automatically lock it in any position, with no screws, knobs or levers to tighten or loosen. Then to fold it back up again, press the mechanism release button and push the leg closed. Combined with the 458B s high load capacity, great min-max height range and its full range of professional features, this makes it the ideal tripod for location work under pressure. The 458B has a built in carrying handle a two-section centre column for low angle or normal shooting and four set leg angle positions. Upside down leg construction also stops the worst of the mud you re standing in from ending up inside the tripod.

I wont praise this tripod as they have nailed it on the other reviews.I will mention the one downside though.
The very nature of the way it is engineered means that it has a light coating of oil on the legs. Its only very slight but it does mean that you can get it on your hands and transfer it to your camera and lenses if you are not careful. Other than that a great product. Maybe not the one for landscape work, but I do nighttime street photography for which its speed of use is perfect.
It's Manfrotto so build quality is superb.

The Manfrotto 458B Neotec Pro Photo Tripod is completely amazing. It is strong and sturdy as well as lightning fast and light enough to carry around all day. It is expensive but it is so worth it. I looked at hundreds of reviews and asked lots of photographers before parting with my hard earned cash. Don't look anywhere else as this is the piece of kit you want. Save up and get the best as it's a whole world of difference. I use this with the Manfrotto 322RC2 Heavy Duty Grip Ball Head. It is an awesome combination of speed and professionalism.

Like it's monopod sibling, the Manfrotto Neotec tripod is the fastest of it's kind to set up and use. You simply pull on the legs completely to extend them. They will lock in any position. Pull them open and voila, you're all set. To close, you bring the legs together, press on the silver-grey catches and push down to the base of the legs. It's as simple as that. No need to grapple with knobs, twist locks or levers. Not as quick though is to position the central column horizontally. On this model you have first to undo the head mounting plate, then unscrew the knob at the base of the central column before you can release the central column itself which then has to be lined up and pushed through a gap in the shoulder of the tripod. On some other tripods like the Vanguard Alta Pro, you simply flip over a lever and extend the central column before collapsing, positioning and locking it in position. Then again if you did a lot of low level macro work or needed to set up your tripod that way you probably wouldn't select the Neotec in the first place. For conventional tripod use there is no faster set of legs to set up than the Neotec.

The legs of the Neotec may be locked at four different angles. While the tripod is heavier than carbon fibre or many other aluminium models, it hold an advantage over all of them in that no other tripod can be set up as fast as the Neotec can. It's upside-down leg construction also helps to prevent mud or water getting into the legs. You should still of course, exercise the usual precaution. The Neotec comes with a ballast ring and carrying strap, a section of which has a clip which allows you to fasten the legs together for ease of transportation. One possible downside if aesthetics bother you is that the legs seem to scratch somewhat easily.

I regret buying as have since bought a better tripod. Yes this tripod is strong, stable, good height etc. But:
The quick opening closing is not that quick or easily adjustable (I now know there is better). Opening also coats the hand is a light 'oily' sheen, which I hate and annoys me as I do not want to get this on my camera. You can avoid this problem by carefully gripping the silver ends of the tripod tubes and feet.
If looking at this tripod pay more and buy better and you'll save money as you won't need to upgrade as I did. This applies to any tripod. You will always want better.

Excllent Tripod for landscape Photography. You can move it very fast and if the ground isn't flatt enough it is an easy handling. Just press the button and you can adjust it.
