Product Description

-very low at minimum working height.
-high load capacity.
-easy and intuitive to use.
-very flexible camera positioning.

-"bridge" cameras (compact SLR-type with built-in lenses).
-SLR cameras with short and/or light fixed-length lenses.
-medium format cameras.

Take the versatility of a ball head, add true ergonomic control and you get the 322RC2: a photographic head that allows you to unblock, move, position and lock your camera with one hand in one position thanks to the revolutionary design of its grip handle, which incorporates the ball lock lever and can also mount the optional 322RS shutter release accessory. A friction control wheel lets you regulate the power of the blocking mechanism to match the weight of your camera/lens. The 322RC2 is made from magnesium for lightweight performance, and is designed to keep the weight of your kit as close as possible to the tripod's centre of gravity by way of its reduced height. It is this fact, matched with the precision construction of the 322RC2 that gives the head its load capacity of 5kg. The 200PL quick release plate assembly can be removed and positioned for left-handed use or on the top of the grip in a vertical position like the 'traditional' 222 design, but when used in this position, max load reverts to 2.5kg capacity. Complete with built-in bubble spirit level and quick release camera plate (standard 1/4" screw, with secondary safety pin). Suitable for use with 35mm or medium format cameras. Optional Plates: 200PL-38, 200PLARCH-14, 200PLARCH-38 PAT. PENDING

-sturdy all-metal construction.
-the compact, rectangular 200PL quick release plate system fits neatly under small-bodied still cameras up to SLR (even with tele lenses) or small medium format, or under small video cameras or spotting scopes. Its rubber pad gives a good grip without damaging the camera, and its angled sides ensure that it als

5.0 out of 5 stars pan and tilt to this - and never looked back 4 Sep 2009
Verified Purchase
used to own the MG460 - a sort of stubby 3 way head. it was always rock solid but suchj a faff on to adjust. was unsure about these 322rc2's, being 30 more than a ballhead that can take twice as much weight. Trying these out in Jacobs one day sealed the deal.! So easy to precisely adjust to the nth degree. Couldn't be easier to operate. The only flaw is that it comes out right handed as standard. It makes more sense to alter it to left handed (which you can easily do by undoing 2 screws and moving the plate), so you can adjust it as you operate the camera.
Can't say enough good things about this otherwise!

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing rocks!!! 12 Sep 2007
By brainleek007 TOP 500 REVIEWER
I bought this head to go with the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod and it's really flippin' good.

It's just so easy to use! Once you've got the camera secured onto the head and tripod assembly all you do is squeeze the handle to release the grip on the ball joint housed within the unit and you can move the camera into almost any position imaginable! You can point it up about 5 degrees or down 90 degrees and also rotate the camera into portrait orientation on the left or right side in seconds.

The really cool and timesaving part though is the detachable plate mechanism. What you have is a little plate that screws into the base of the camera using the normal tripod screw. To detach the camera from the head all you do is flick a little locking lever underneath and pull back the main locking lever on top and the camera is free to handhold with the plate unobtrusively still attached to the base of the camera. It takes about 1 second and means you don't have to unscrew anything. To reattach the camera simply get the bevelled edge of the plate back in its recess then let the other side click down, push the main locking lever in a bit to ensure a firm grip and flick the underneath locking lever and voila its back on in about 2 seconds, rock solid and ready to point anywhere.

The head also has a dial to adjust the tension required to overcome the grip of the ball and socket joint. It is rated to handle a camera combo up to 5kg which will cover most gear combinations save for those huge white canon 'L' super zooms weighing as much as a small child.

And finally this thing is BUILT - it will last for years. And it has a cute little spirit level built in!

I want to knock a star off for the price but can't bring myself too. It's just so easy to use.

Fabulous piece of gear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy! 9 May 2010

Let's get straight to the point... If you want to use a tripod and get your camera into position quickly, this head is definitely for you; it's brilliant! You simply squeeze the trigger, align your shot and let go of the trigger... and that it...voilà!

It's not a pan and tilt head so I don't know why some people are complaining about panning, tilting and tracking birds etc - it's not designed for that!

This is a complete joy to use... if you want to set up your tripod, get your shot aligned without messing about with three screws and handles and stuff like that, you'll love it.

If you want to shoot panoramas, pan, tilt, use video or anything like that, buy a different head.

I used this on a photo-walk with some buddies and whilst they were messing about with their pan and tilt heads, I was already set up and finished! Here's the real point... after our photo walk they all bought this head - what more can be said?

Enjoy it,

4.0 out of 5 stars Manfrotto 322RC head tested 20 Oct 2009

I havehad a go with the new tripod head in past couple of weeks(Manfrotto 322rc)- it supports the weight of a Canon 40D and sigma 150-500mm beautifully but it is awkward to use without a cable release - i am right handed and therefore assumed the best set up for me was the right handed set up. However this means i can not focus or fire the shutter when panning after targets!!! if you use a cable release or remote you can use your left hand to focus and fire. The head is very versatile and can be changed to left hand or vertical pistol grip set ups - however i ve not triedd this yet so i can not say if this is easily achieved. I suppose it is completely different to the pan head design i was using before and it will take a little getting used to. I will check the instructions to look at the other set ups that can be run. The workings are smooth and there is less 'droop' than in other models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty indeed! 25 Feb 2010

I went for the RC2 as I did a fair amount of research and everything was pointing towards a ball head mount for my tripod. I had purchased the Manfrotto 190 Cf Tripod-Q90-4 Section [which is superb] and wanted a mount of equal quality.

Firstly the construction and design, at first I thought it was rather cumbersome - but after a little use you soon discover that is not the case. the build quality is superb and the design has been well considered. With one hand you can easily adjust the position, lock and remove the camera with the base plate mechanism. Given some time I would imagine with just your thumb actually!!!

The base plate as mentioned in other reviews has an excellent lock as well as the usual friction lever. Once the base plate is secured to the base of your camera you can just load the plate into the dock and press down, the lever then clicks and you can lock this by flicking the lock home. I personally think the design is excellent, I feel reassured that the camera won't go anywhere once it is on the locking plate.

The base plate is metal [please excuse my ignorance with the exact material used], but has a rubber mat that will not mark your beloved camera. The locking screw has a fold away D-ring on the underside to aid attachment. Again nice considered design.

To summarise it is quality and I have already recommended it to friends.
