4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy 9 July 2009
By rk406

This is sturdy and is good at its job of swivelling. However, it is chunky and just as heavy as the monopod I bought to use it on. Maybe that is an essential requirement, but its weight detracts from the portability of the monopod.

5.0 out of 5 stars Manfrotto 234 5 Jun 2010
Great little item .
Depends how you mount the camera allows to to tilt from landscape to portrait or pan up and down.
It`s heavier than I expected but this gives it a robust feel .
A simple and useful head.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just too big and chunky 21 Nov 2012

Solid build quality would usually be a good thing, but in this case the product doesn't really fit well with with it's light-weight companion.
This is the recommended accessory with the Manfrotto MMC3 Monopod, but where that is a slick and svelte thing, this is heavy and bulky. It's equal to the weight of the entire monopod. I was also surprised how big it is, I have to remove it from the monopod to fit both in a messenger bag.

If it was lighter and more compact it would get left on the monopod all the time and be a useful accessory, but I fear this is likely to get left at home more often than not and I'm not sure it was worth the bother.
I'd advise trying out your monopod for a while and see whether you really need this before buying.

Otherwise it is typically rugged Manfrotto quality.
It's unlikely to ever break.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased 31 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase
I bought this as a replacement for the Manfrotto Quick Release Head (which was totally useless for a compact camera!) In contrast this, though heavy enough, I guess, to take the biggest camera, is still very good for my top of the line compact.

It is very quick and easy to mount and dismount. Perhaps 4 seconds! Excellent for a MACRO of something on the ground and for quickly converting to Portrait View. There is no 90 degree click stop, but it doesn't really matter on a Monopod, since angling and framing on a Monopod is done by eye - in the flash of an eye!

If like me you take more portrait format photos than Macros then mount it with the knob facing directly towards you. Then you will only ever need to loosen the nut to swivel the camera when you do a Macro (still very easy and quick).

The captive nut design for the mounting screw is both utterly simple, ingenious, sensible and shouldn't ever break. It will switch for the bigger thread if you need it by dismantling the Head and then reassembling. I don't need to do this but if you do then it should be easy since the Design is all so simple and obvious. It also has both threads at the base.

I expect this to outlast my Monopod - a Gyotos - and to outlive a nuclear holocaust!

5.0 out of 5 stars Monopod head 23 Aug 2011
Verified Purchase
This tilt head adds just that little bit of extra usefulness to a monopod. It has both threads for camera bases by reversing the thumbwheel operated attachment. It is robustly made and has a rubberised surface to mate the camera. As well as using it on the monopod, I have found turning it to 90 degrees and collapsing the monopod make carrying the camaera and 70-200 zoom about quite convenient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heads up 29 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase
This is great. It's solid, well made and easy to use, as you would expect from Manfrotto. If you are looking for a small head, this is the one you want. I read through many of the reviews on lots of different heads before settling on this one. Unlike some of the options the price is fair for this reliable head which once locked will easily take the weight of your average SLR.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy but does the job well 4 July 2013

This is good product -very strong and well built -maybe room for improvement as to smoothness to allow some camera movement for video. It is heavy -would make a good weapon on a monopod!

I never use to use a head on my pod but -now would consider this essential -makes life so much easier!

4.0 out of 5 stars Add versatility to a monopod 19 Aug 2010
By Le Wrat

If your monopod does not come with a tilt head and you are not using a ring mount on your lens then switching to portrait is a problem.
Enter this tilt head. It is quite a lump of metal that whilst quite heavy gives you confidence that it is up to the job.
I use it with a lightweight monopod and this almost doubles the total weight, but I am happy to carry it for the ease that it gives in changing the tilt angle of the camera.
It will tilt to 90 degrees either side of vertical (and everything between) by after simply loosening the good sized knob.
When I mount the camera I have the knob facing away from me (forward) so that it does not get in the way when I am looking through the view finder and I can easily switch from landscape to portrait.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiddly
The wheel to attach the head to the camera needs re-designing. It's fiddly and great care is needed to ensure that the camera is firmly attached.
