I bought this as a replacement for the Manfrotto Quick Release Head (which was totally useless for a compact camera!) In contrast this, though heavy enough, I guess, to take the biggest camera, is still very good for my top of the line compact.
It is very quick and easy to mount and dismount. Perhaps 4 seconds! Excellent for a MACRO of something on the ground and for quickly converting to Portrait View. There is no 90 degree click stop, but it doesn't really matter on a Monopod, since angling and framing on a Monopod is done by eye - in the flash of an eye!
If like me you take more portrait format photos than Macros then mount it with the knob facing directly towards you. Then you will only ever need to loosen the nut to swivel the camera when you do a Macro (still very easy and quick).
The captive nut design for the mounting screw is both utterly simple, ingenious, sensible and shouldn't ever break. It will switch for the bigger thread if you need it by dismantling the Head and then reassembling. I don't need to do this but if you do then it should be easy since the Design is all so simple and obvious. It also has both threads at the base.
I expect this to outlast my Monopod - a Gyotos - and to outlive a nuclear holocaust!
