Book Description

13 May 2004 1844800288 978-1844800285 6th Revised edition
Drury 's Management & Cost Accounting is the market-leading European text on management accounting and is a comprehensive authority on all aspects of the subject. The book has been streamlined and substantially redesigned in its 6th edition to make the book even more suitable for the needs of today 's student. There are both printed and web-based resources for the book at www.drury-online.com. The site is packed with valuable resources for students and lecturers. There are resources that are open to access for all and there are resources that are restricted to lecturers ' use only. The aim of the sixth edition is to explain the principles involved in the design and evaluation of management and cost accounting information systems. The emphasis in the book is on management accounting systems - those that are used to accumulate, classify, summarize and report information that will be used for internal decision-making purposes within an organisation. However, cost accounting systems, that record cost information for external reporting and internal profit measurement purposes, are also comprehensively covered. This new edition has been brought full up to date with the latest developments in the subject, is stronger pedagogically with the addition of answers to questions, and now contains more real-world mini-cases to bring home the relevance of the subject matter to the real world of business.

This book covers the whole field so it's not ideal if you need a quick introduction to the subject. But for anyone studying management accounting it provides an excellent resource for learning and testing your skills.
The student's manual is highly recommended too.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Companion to a Poor Textbook 30 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I am a first year accountancy student at the University of Glasgow, and the accompanying textbook for this workbook (Management & Cost Accounting, by Colin Drury) was the prescribed text for my management accounting course. Unfortunately, I found that the main textbook had weaknesses in certain areas, namely the lack of worked solutions to the often very demanding end of chapter questions.
Nevertheless, the student's workbook has proved to be an essential companion to the textbook. It contains a considerable amount of worked solutions to end of chapter questions. These were especially helpful, especially in the areas of the course where I am having difficulty.
I would recommend this book to other accountancy students who are reading the parent textbook and having difficulty in a lot of the areas. However, those students who are not having many difficulties (although there are few of them!) would probably be just as well off without the student's workbook.

I'm really scared about using this particular book because I think that this is the textbook I have to use for my Advanced Management Accounting class next year because I was told that the teacher teaching that class really likes it :(

When you skim through the book, as I did in a shop, it looks OK until you see the Chapter Exercises section at the end of each chapter where the typing or font size looks all tiny and scrunched up worse than the bottom line of the eye chart at an optometrist's! Way worse than that!

The exercise problems in this book look like they're all scrunched up because the author or publishing company themselves really had a tight budget that they had to stick with! LOL :)

But it won't be funny anymore when I actually have to look at that thing for real! :( Seriously, what were they thinking when they must know that students are going to be reading and pouring over those problems repetitively?

It's blindness-causing. I hope they have a good lawyer....
