Connolly's life as a fisherman is sunk by the destruction of his boat by a bolt of lightning. The insurance company won't pay up because it falls under that age-old excuse of being an "Act of God". So Connolly decides to sue the deity. The premise raises issues about how the law and the church have apparently conspired together. But at heart the film is a simple character study, so any pondering on legal or theological implications will have to be done on your own time; the screen is occupied with family issues, underhand dealings and a maybe-maybe romance with Judy Davis. Big Yin fans at least will enjoy the Connolly's composite character. --Paul Tonks

Billy at his Best.,
This review is from: The Man Who Sued God [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
This for me is Billy Connolly at his best. Bad language from the start - but what else can you expect, apart from brilliant acting. An excellent, imaginative and very thought provoking storyline. A must for all Billy Connolly fanatics and a must for all doubters of insurance companies. Highly funny, certainly one of the best i've seen in a while - great entertainment.

Superb!!! (If you like Billy),
This review is from: The Man Who Sued God [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
Well, admittedly the first time I watched it I thought the film itself wasn't the most riveting film I have watched, however Billy's performance is truly mesmerizing - Billy is exactly how you would expect him to behave in everyday public. However I have since watched the film at least 8 more times in the space of 12 weeks and each time, I still thoroughly enjoy Billy. The film itself continues to grow on me and the storyline is cracking (this coming from a legal background!). If you like Billy, buy it. If you aren't a huge fan, then rent it before buying it. It you are in a passing phase of Billy Connolly comedy, don't buy it because it will not meet your expectations of a great film.

Well Worth Watching,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Man Who Sued God [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
Billy Connolly takes his out spoken wit to film. The film is a little far fetched but makes you think it could happen and then makes you think why has it not happened yet... Let's all sue god!!! It's an easy film to watch with no twists or turns but still well worth watching. Billy's character is all you'd expect, blunt, brash and very likeable. And the rest of the cast work well together. I would stongly recommend buying this movie or at least renting it out.
