Product Description

Product Description

This book tells the amazing story of how Stephen Russell became the Barefoot Doctor. He talks of all the great teachers he studied with - including original self-development luminaries including RD Laing, Fritzjof Capra, Ram Dass, Gregory Bateson and Al Huang - and how they helped him to become a great teacher in his own right. Written in the tradition of Gurdjieff's "Meetings with Remarkable Men", Barefoot's own story takes you back to a time when the world of spirituality and self-development were still more of the realm of magic than marketing, and offers intimate insights into the minds of some of the greatest healers and teachers the world has ever known.

From the Back Cover

In over 25 years of training, Barefoot Doctor learned from some of the most colourful, inspiring and innovative teachers and gurus of their generation. As well as the man who could drive for miles with his eyes closed, in this book you’ll meet Geshe, who emitted actual light when meditating; the tai chi teacher who could throw people across the room with one finger; Geronimo’s grandson; and luminaries such as RD Laing and Ram Dass. Then there’s Psycho Dan, on the run for pulling someone’s ears off with his bare hands, who taught Barefoot how to fight. In this book, Barefoot Doctor achieves something unique: telling ripping yarns about real-life gurus while also succeeding in passing on the essence of their teachings, and inspiring you the reader to start living by your intuition and creating an incredible life of your own. ‘Learn how to create the life you want by just being yourself’ Health & Fitness magazine Stephen Russell , the Barefoot Doctor, is a leading light in the world of personal development and has been at the helm of the movement for over two decades. Author of 13 bestselling books, he’s devoted his life to interpreting, simplifying and sharing the ancient Taoist system of medicine, martial arts, meditation and creativity. He has a following of millions around the globe, who log on daily to his website www.barefootdoctorglobal.com and attend his various talks, seminars, events and club nights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Opening to our inner sight, 12 Dec 2009
By emissionary (North Kensington, London, UK) - See all my reviews
I'd never read Barefoot before. Now I'm hooked. He's a master storyteller - and does he have stories to tell! And he does so free of swank or show that he doesn't own up to. What emerges is a lovely man who has dedicated himself to becoming master of all that Taoism offers. The writing is very clear. There's a humility in how he frames and passes on the wisdom as he learnt it from the masters he trained with. That is the essence of this book: "my greatest teachers, how I met them, what I learned from them." Now I'm looking forward to reading others of his books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives great context to Barefoot's work and teachings., 15 Dec 2009

(REAL NAME)
An earthly and poetic narrative, this book is unique amongst other Barefoot Doctor works as it is written in first person and reads like a novel, albeit an informative and enlightening one. Could possibly be the most informal and enjoyable form of literature in which the Barefoot Doctor's wisdom can be accessed. Highly recommended.
