I gave the last series 5 stars although it probably didnt deserve it because it wasn't really that good. In fact it was pretty bad really. Ham acting, wobbly sets, hellish fashions and pedestrian storylines. But if, like me, you were Joe Lampton obsessed in the early 70,s then you will be prepared to forgive it almost anything.
This second series picks up the pace a bit, and this is the one I remember more clearly. Here Joe bullies, connives, cheats and shags his way through a further thirteen episodes. Some of which I remember quite vividly from forty years ago. (Did I just hear someone say "Get a life!)?
Okay it's still incredibly dated but remember that this was pretty much cutting edge stuff in 1972 and we weren't nearly as sophisticated then as we are today. And the clothes and the decor are still sidesplittingly awful. Remember these hideous kipper ties and shirts made out of the same material?
But never mind all that. If you're nearing sixty and you're a closet Joe Lampton freak then pour yourself a glass of Blue Nun and dig out the lava lamp and the fondue set and pretend you're 19 again. You won't regret it.
Finally a word of thanks to Network for trawling this one out of the archives. Who would have thought that this would have seen the light of day after all these years? Keep up the good work.
