Book Description

A unique and essential travel guide from a real insider -- the man in seat 61.

Product Description

Mark Smith is the Man in Seat Sixty-One. Although this might make him sound like a fictional spy, he is in fact the man behind the massively popular www.seat61.com website, which offers invaluable advice on worldwide train travel. This book is the essential guide for anyone who wishes to travel to Europe and beyond by train. Packed with insider knowledge and top tips, it offers advice on everything from the quickest routes and the cheapest fares to the best weekends away; travelling with children and changing trains; timetables and maps; essential items to travel with; and everything in between. More and more people are choosing to avoid air travel and seek alternatives, and this is the only book they need to plan those journeys.

Paperback version of the fantastic Seat 61 website - essential for anyone interested in travelling around Europe by train. Everything is laid out in an easy to read format and a lot of the leg work is done for you. Full of handy tips and advice and even suggestions for a quick meal whilst awaiting your connection. Fully deservesd 5 stars.

Full of good ideas 26 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
Lots of ideas on how to take trains and get to places. Have started to use it for travels, and am now taking much more civilised trips..... with the added bonus that you have no airport hassles, travel greener, take as much whisky and toothpaste as you like, and see the countryside! Read it and be inspired. It can work out just as cheap as air travel!

Absolutely everything you need to know about travelling by train in Europe - one of the most rewarding and under-rated experiences you can ever hope to have. Leave the budget airlines in the sky, pack an inter-rail pass, a Thomas Cook rail map, and a copy of Mark Smith's book; then climb aboard to explore a continent and its people on the rails.

Misleading cover picture and useless book
The cover of this book as shown on Amazon is incorrect and misleading, as is the title given for it. I ordered this book in preparation for an Interrail trip starting in Barcelona. Read more
