Product Description

Product Description

In The Mirror of Her Dreams, the dazzling first volume of Mordant’s Need, New York Times bestselling author Stephen R. Donaldson introduced us to the richly imagined world of Mordant, where mirrors are magical portals into places of beauty and terror. Now, with A Man Rides Through, Donaldson brings the story of Terisa Morgan to an unforgettable conclusion. . . .

Aided by the powerful magic of Vagel, the evil Arch-Imager, the merciless armies are marching against the kingdom of Mordant. In its hour of greatest need, two unlikely champions emerge. One is Geraden, whose inability to master the simplest skills of Imagery has made him a laughingstock. The other is Terisa Morgan, transferred to Mordant from a Manhattan apartment by Geraden’s faulty magic. Together, Geraden and Terisa discover undreamed-of talents within themselves—talents that make them more than a match for any Imager . . . including Vagel himself.

Unfortunately, those talents also mark them for death. Branded as traitors, they are forced to flee the castle for their lives. Now, all but defenseless in a war-torn countryside ravaged by the vilest horrors Imagery can spawn, Geraden and Terisa must put aside past failures and find the courage to embrace their powers—and their love—before Vagel can spring his final trap.

From the Back Cover

Terisa Morgan desperately needs to escape. Gilbur is trying to kill her, Castellan Lebbick wants to torture her and she needs to find Geraden. The fortress of Orison is under siege by the Alend army; the forces of Cadwal, led by the Arch-Imager Vagel, are poised to strike; the traitor Eremis is preparing the ground for the hated enemies; and King Joyse's actions are more baffling than ever.

Everything Geraden and Terisa love in the land of Mordant is about to be destroyed – unless they can find a way to prevent it using their new-found talent for mirrors and Imagery. But Terisa knows Eremis will resort to every evil power at his disposal to ensure the success of his terrible master plan.

'A Man Rides Through' continues the story begun in 'The Mirror of Her Dreams' and is the stunning conclusion to 'Mordant's Need', the mesmerizing new series from Stephen Donaldson, internationally acclaimed master of fantasy.

I found the first book in this series, The Mirror of Her Dreams, absolutely fascinating although I have to admit at times it made me slightly exasperated. The endless excursions into the complex logic of betrayal and intrigue would have got a little wearing had it not been for the wonderful cast of characters Donaldson has created. In A Man Rides Through, however, the pace of action quickens considerably, as the writer brings together all the seperate storylines for a final and dramatic convergence. Donaldson's firm control of plot development and understanding of character make for a novel of great impact and psychological intricacy. These are the first novels I have read by Donaldson and I'm certainly planning to investigate further! A brilliant read.

This book is truly marvellous. Donaldson is an abolute genius, rivalled only by Hobb and Kay in current fantasy writing. The characters, plot, and everything else in this book is just about perfect. What more can I say - a modern classic........ ps read this. And the Gap series. Now.

Continuing the story of 'The Mirror of her Dreams', Terisa Morgan begins to realise the city of Mordant is a hotbed of Lies, Deceit, Corruption and Betrayal and not from without as previously believed, but from within the city itself.
She is the only one who can prove Geradens innocence and protect the land from the evil Imagers who seek to bring horrific creatures though their mirrors.
Plenty of action and fantastical creatures, also with a political edge. Definitely a 5 star read.
