Lon Chaney's life was a sad but ultimately interesting one, a life brilliantly captured by James Cagney's incredible portrayal.
A man famed for his incredibly detailed make up for his tortured creations, there was, you could sense a sadness and a touch of bitter regret about his life.
His wife, played admirably by Dorothy Malone, was a shallow woman, who later regretted her actions in leaving her son and husband.
The story was told with respect and reverence. A truly magnificent film that showed another side to James Cagney, my favourite actor of all time.
