5.0 out of 5 stars Let's hope for a region 2 release soon 27 Mar 2009
This is the one we have all been waiting for but still they won't let us have it.
This box set is only available to purchase in the U.S. in region 1 format. Time Life currently hold the exclusive rights and the box set is not available for international shipping.
I have heard rumours that season 1 will be available later this year in the US when the exclusive arrangement with Time Life expires (I cannot confirm this is correct).
Lets hope the distributors see sense and make it available to the european market with a region 2 release but don't hold your breath, I remember the VHS releases in the mid 1990's where out of over 100 episodes only 12 were released in the VHS format before we were abandoned (all the episodes were released on NTSC format)

5.0 out of 5 stars F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C. 2 Feb 2010
By Coincidence Vs Fate TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Like others I bought this from but I got mine from a Marketplace seller, brand new for less than 90 delivered, so I was well pleased with that.

So what's the package like? Well, I was a little disappointed, to be honest. Now I didn't expect the case to be metal, but I thought it maybe a hard plastic, but it's fairly flimsy cardboard, still looks good on the shelf though.

So what's in the box? Well, 41 DVDs for a start. All packed in their own season cases, which all stick neatly inside in the box in a two by two formation. You also get 4 (very thin) booklets on each season, listing all episodes and original air dates, etc. Then there are two bonus DVD in their own individual cardboard sleeves.

If you're reading this review then I won't need to tell you just how fabulous this series is. The first season is in black and white and that's odd to watch as I really only remember the colour episodes. It'll take me ages to get through them all. That'll please the wife!

5.0 out of 5 stars Open channel D. 16 Jan 2010
Like the previous reviewer,i bought my set via and got it for less than half the cheapest price i could find in this country. What do you get for your money?A fabulous, well thought out and beautifully constructed box set, lashings of extras and a series than seems as fresh today as it did when i used to watch it in the sixties.Out of the four seasons,my favorite has to be the second, although every season is full of wit, charm and invention. With all the channels available in the television world today, why hasn"t this been repeated. The american market appears to be brimming over with classic tv of every possible genre.I doubt if their will be a future market for discs of our so called reality or talent shows that seem to dominate prime time viewing today. To summarize,a terrific box set, well worth the money, providing great entertainment that is quality, not merely nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product 5 Jan 2010
I purchased this from (thus saving about 65)and it's a first class product. For your money, you get 41 DVDs in a presentation 'secret agent' style briefcase. The quality of the shows is high and each season has an explanatory booklet with it. There are also loads of extras. All in all, this is a great product and highly recommended.
ps Can whoever owns the rights to the 60s 'Batman and Robin' TV show please sanction its release on DVD.

Unique collection of engaging, original spycraft entertainment unlike anything on TV for the last 60 years. The plots are full of oblique, intelligent humour and, thank God, were not used to further the cold war propaganda agenda.
United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, UNCLE, an organisation devoted to safeguarding world peace. Versus the international Mafia, crooked royalty, bankers and other greedy lowlife operating all over the world is very close to the real world so it draws you in. These scallywags are of course THRUSH, or Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity.
Many of the writers and other contributors were veterans, drawing on their wartime experience which sharpens the edges. In the first few minutes of the first episode we are introdued to an explosive substance called Thermite which, it is now emerging, may have been used for the controlled demolition of New York's Twin Towers on 9/11.
Decades ahead of its time. This was cutting edge TV drama of television's golden age to get your grandparents to buy a set and along with the Honour Blackman and Diana Rigg era 'Avengers' has yet to be bettered. Over 100 episodes have filled many evenings for us when there is, as usual nowadays, 50 channels, but nothing, other than RT, worth watching on the box.
There are still fishy and faltering attempts to stop this being properly released in the UK... more reason to splash out, but get it shipped over the Atlantic & it'll only cost you 80 all up. So open channel D and, if you're as discerning as I am about how to relax of an evening, this is one you'll watch slowly right through, and won't let go.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my Holy Grail purchases. 8 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
(The other one will be "China Beach" if it ever gets released, to put things in context.) Perhaps i shouldn't be writing a review, after only just beginning my MFU rerun, but i don't think this will subsequently disappoint. Having catastrophically eschewed acquiring this set, one year ago, for thirty-nine Swiss Francs (equivalent to about twenty-seven quid), i have been tracking it ever since. I reasonably figured there might be a region two version available. Instead, i was utterly, doh, aghast to see there wasn't, what this one cost and that could not ship it outside North America. (A real triple whammy.) A copy finally became available at an affordable price and i didn't hesitate again.

Where to begin? This is simply a tremendous series, right down to Jerry Goldsmith's utterly iconic title theme, the screen dissolves at the end of each act and the gimmicky device which signals the switches between scenes. It dates back to the sixties obsession with the world of espionage and has a little of the seriousness of a "Danger Man", but very much more of the tongue-in-cheek Emma Peel/John Steed spoofiness in "The Avengers". The United Network Command for Law and Enforcement station is located in back of Del Floria's tailor services, for example, as they battle against a shadowy criminal organisation called Thrush. The staff unsurprisingly features numerous luscious ladies, to add to the relatively light mood.

The three lead actors are all quite marvellous and combine to make one of television's classic partnerships. Robert Vaughn is brilliant as the suave, "Bondesque" Napoleon Solo. (One of the great television characters, for me.) David McCallum, of course, plays the Russian Illya Kuryakin. (One of the best-named characters in the history of television.) Leo G.
