This is the first book by Campbell Armstrong I read, and it got me hooked. The title nearly put me off, although it intrigued me. I am still not sure why it is called "Mambo"! Frank Pagan is a fabulous character, and placing him in locations as varied as Cuba and Scotland really gives the reader a chance to explore his sometimes hilarious mannerisms. The tension builds incredibly well as each chapter concentrates on a different location and its corresponding character; the scenes described so well in Cuba are particularly exciting. The way that Mr Armstrong describes the countries his characters visit is very impressive, and you begin to feel as if you are actually there! It's an amazing feeling, which I feel is very rare. I can guarantee that anyone will be hooked after the first chapter, and that there is plenty more to learn about the brilliant Frank Pagan!
