Book Description

27 April 2010
In this charming book, one little boy can't wait for summer to finally be here. He keeps asking, 'Mama, is it summer yet?' Mama responds saying, 'Not yet', but there are plenty of signs that indicate spring is changing into summer: The earth is soft and there are seeds to plant, birds singing, ducklings in the pond, and pink blossoms blooming. The young boy even wears his bathing suit and carries a beach pail in preparation, but will it ever be summer? The text is a wonderful celebration of the change of seasons and a great opportunity to showcase Nikki's images of nature and the joys of family and community.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful story that can be shared by a parent and child 13 May 2010
By Wayne S. Walker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Have you ever waited, waited, seemingly forever waited, through the end of winter and the false starts of spring, wondering if summer would ever come? During the last chilly days of winter, a little boy wants to know, "Is it summer yet?" His mother tells him about the buds on the bushes, the seeds being planted in the earth, and the blossoms on the apple trees. They find unique beauty and pleasure in the nesting squirrels, the singing swallows, and the swimming ducklings. But will summer make it? And what will they do then? Nikki McClure's lyrical text and cut-paper illustrations celebrate the changing of the seasons and encourage children to look closely at the world of nature around them. The author lives in Olympia, WA, where she says the wait for summer always seems especially damp and gray. One sunny day in March, her son asked, "Mama, is it summer yet?" This book is her response. It is a wonderful story that can be shared by parent and child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 11 Jun 2010
By Eco Mama's Guide To Living Green - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Nikki McClure's work has for a long time charmed and warmed my heart, but her latest effort could have been written just for us. Mama, Is It Summer Yet echos the same conversations I've been having with my son and I know I am not alone. McClure's intricate paper cut images are both innocent and sophisticated and capture perfectly the essence of mother nature and motherhood.

McClure celebrates the mundane and sacred. That precious moment when you get to taste your first strawberry of the season, planting seeds in the garden and watching them sprout... those fleeting moments that make life so beautiful. As always, it's about living in the present, savoring the moment.

We have been reading this book over and over, and my son has it memorized and reads it to himself. This book reminds me to stop and really absorb the gifts summer has to offer, now bittersweet as each season marks the lightening fast passage of time and my son growing up. Summer is a time to get closer to your children, see the world the way they do--as the magical place it is. Mama, Is It Summer Yet depicts this touchingly and is one of those books your child will remember as one of their favorites when they are adults. It's printed on recycled paper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, timeless book 14 July 2010
By JBebe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautiful book. The story is sweet and the pictures are timeless. The cut-paper technique used to create them is amazing. I love the black and white format of the pictures with a different accent color on each page. It reminds me a little of the illustrations in the classic children's book Blueberries for Sal (Live Oak Readalong)(Book + CD).

My two-year-old son had me read this book over and over. I highly recommend it!
