A valuable addition to anyone who has a job or interest in malware and also current network threats. The book teaches a lot of stuff, from finding botnet fast flux networks, analysing malicious javascript, shellcode and PDFs, setting up your own automated lab to provide details reports on your samples, setting up honeypots to capture the malware as well as analysing files, memory and other things to analyse an infection. This book will get you ready to deal with real world threats for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best security books around 4 Mar 2012

If you know a little bit of coding, this book will have you on your feet and dissecting malware confidently and effectively (and most of all, safely) within days of picking it up.

The book takes you though collecting samples, to static analysis, dynamic analysis, PDFs, shellcode, automating analysis and setting up a malware lab. Excellent stuff - just indispensable.

The scripted samples are mostly in Python which is a nice language to pick up (I don't 'know' Python myself but still managed to customise the scripts nicely) and the book has a website where the code even now appears to be well maintained.

I don't generally give any book five stars but this one deserved it. Well done gentlemen!

A great reference for anyone in the field or who has an interest in it. The book goes into a lot of detail and I believe the book is more beneficial if you have a little understanding already, although not a lot is required as the author is very good at getting the information across.
