Product Description

Product Description

From the creator of Reginald Perrin, this is the complete series of David Nobbs' BBC Radio 4 sitcom based ina London museum. Rod Millet has always dreamed of working at the Maltby Collection. He used to visit as a teenager, when he lusted after Whistler's Sister - and his Mother, Rod wasn't picky back then. On becoming the Museum's Deputy Curator of Painting and Sculpture, however, it quickly becomes apparent that the chavvy son of a self-made biscuit mogul isn't going to fit neatly into the musty, insular world of London antiquities. In these six episodes, Rod tries to save the museum from closure - even though by doing so he is threatening director Walter's early retirement - and endeavours to find romance with the lovely Prunella. Can Millet save the day and win his boss' hand? Listen and find out...Starring Julian Rhind-Tutt ("Green Wing") as Rod and Geoffrey Palmer as Walter, this well-written, gentle comedy features guest appearances from Hugh Dennis and Barry Cryer. This CD release also includes an introductory sleeve note about the series, specially written by David Nobbs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Listen!!, 19 Jun 2008
By R. JONES (England) - See all my reviews

As a collector of many Radio 4 plays of all genres this has to be one of the best things I have listened to in years! I bought it because we are a big fan of Geoffrey Palmer (As Time Goes By). However, it is well cast throughout. This is a very funny listen which is easy to follow and the characters are very endearing. I only hope that David Nobbs decides to write another series as it would be a dying shame not to! If you are a fan of radio plays this is a must buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant characterisations, 12 Nov 2009
By G. Crawley "GMC" (Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews

A great series with wonderful characters, especially the two main ones, and excellent acting. Each episode makes you smile with its invention and good-humoured comedy and always leaves you feeling happier than before you started listening. When you see the name David Nobbs on a book or a broadcast, you can be sure you are in for some gentle fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny, but far from his best, 8 Sep 2008
By Iain White "chalky" (Thai Beach) - See all my reviews

If like me you're a David Nobbs fan, then I suspect you'll enjoy this and be disappointed at the same time.

It certainly has his trademark, laid-back very British sense of humour, sadly its just not as funny as most of his books ... in print or recorded.

I'm glad i bought it. would I recommend it? Yes, to existing David Nobbs fans, no to the rest of you. Get some Reggie Perrin, Much Ado, Cupids Dates, I Didn't get Where ... etc etc first.
