Product Description

Product Description

Mali's spiritual capital, Timbuktu, became a twin town of Hay-on-Wye in February 2007; both are famous for their festivals, but that's where the family likeness ends. In Mali you may float past hippopotami whilst sailing down the River Niger, greet 300 herdsmen atop brilliant white camels, or stand on an escarpment looking out over the mystical cliff villages of the Dogon people. This new edition features thoroughly updated information on everything from elephant migrations to rock-climbing. It also includes a new, comprehensive guide to the music and festivals of Mali, including the Festival in the Desert to which increasing numbers of tourists flock.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 12 Dec 2010
This review is from: Mali (Bradt Travel Guides) (Paperback)
An interesting guide book as it is full of stories and peoples experiences. However, it is outdated so be prepared for changes in Mali and ask fellow travellers about the best hostels to stay in and locals for the best places to eat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for knowing more about this country, 7 Dec 2009
By Carolyn Shearlock "TheBoatGalley" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Mali (Bradt Travel Guides) (Paperback)
When we travelled to Mali in 2007, this was the only guide book on the market (I don't know if there are others now or not) that dealt just with Mali. Lonely Planet has one on West Africa, but that was just too bulky to lug around. We were with a group, so weren't using this to plan the trip, just as background. It worked well for that and was as accurate as any guide book ever is, considering that things are always changing.

This review is from: Mali (Bradt Travel Guides) (Paperback)
For those who are interested in traveling in Mali, this book is a great choice. The text is clear and comprehensive--covering all regions of the country. It also gives leads to further resources, for anyone interested in pursuing this in depth.
