I have recently set up a Malawi Cichlid tank and thought:"I'll do some reading up on the subject."
Not as easy as it sounds as many books around now were written before 1980 and seem to miss or incorrectly categorise the newest fish species.
This book contains some of the best photos of fish I have seen.
The quality of the pictues is excellent and real care has been taken to show the best specimens and ideal tank set-ups.
The "down to earth" wording makes it very easy reading and the simple navigation of the book lets you pick up and put down at your leisure rather than having to read it all to understand.
The author seems to be writing almost as if he's speaking to a friend or describing a fantastic holiday adventure.
The author tries not to go into too much of the technical stuff but most FAQ's will be answered by this book.
Total value for money, quality photos, easy to read - what more could you ask for.

Colorful book, but not a wealth of information

This book is about what you'd expect for the price - it's full of fantastic pictures, but doesn't have much more information than you could find just browsing the internet.

Good starter book

This book is excellent for the price. It contains basic knowledge with a bit of advanced aquarist practices. Most pics are of good quality, with the exception of some fish that are in terrible condition. This was my first African Cichlid book and I would recommend it to newcommers to the hobby.

Superb laymen reading!!!

I highly recommend this book! The pictures are high quality and information is presented in an easy, cookbook fashion. Well worth the small price.
