For a prequel there sure is a lot packed in here. I thoroughly enjoyed this book but felt a little dizzy with the back and forth actions of Enrico. Gah that man had me going around in circles but I guess that was what this poor guy was feeling most of the time.
Antonella was the young daughter of his father's nemesis and unfortunately they signed a marriage deal between Enrico and Antonella in order to make peace. In order to become the strongest of the families. It really tells the story of Enrico becoming the man that he is supposed to be, and enacting revenge on Antonella's father. In amongst it all he does find love in Antonella despite having a family elsewhere.
I have the second part here and I am extremely curious to see where this goes. I loved the style, and the backdrop was described so beautifully that at times I just wanted to climb into those pages. Has a subtle darkness to it, I prefer my dark to be dark, but it in no way spoilt the story for me.
Definitely recommend!

From the start of the first chapter, you don't want to put this book down. A love story with twists within twists it keeps you engrossed from page to page. Can't wait to read the rest of the remaining books in this spellbinding story

Yet again I plunge into the pool of top one hundred free romances and came up with this.

Who could forget 'The Godfather'? One of the best books/films ever and setting the standard for all things Mafia with its sweeping operatic tale of love, lust and revenge. I started reading Malavita hoping to get swept away in the drama but after the Godfather, which set such a high bar, I didn't. I tried but if a story becomes one that you don't want to read and just aren't engaged enough from the beginning, then best give it a miss. Its competently written and doesn't make the usual mistakes of nouns and pronouns but I just didn't find it interesting enough and didn't really care what happened to any of the characters.

Malavita is the prequel to the `Blood and Honor' Series and Follows Enrico's early life from the death of his mother and brothers, to his marriage to Antonella Andretti. It was interesting to have the background to this story in such detail. We were told certain things in Revenge (book 1) and Retribution (book 2) but we were only given the out line information that we needed to understand those books. We now get to taste Enrico's pain first hand and can fully understand his need for revenge, and his hatred for the Andretti's. The day his family were killed, his life changed forever, he was forced to join the family business, which he never wanted, and his union with Antonella was decided for him.

Personally I would have liked to have seen more of Enrico's time with Veronica; Nico's Mother. It would have been nice to actually see how they were with each other, if they were truly in love etc. I felt sorry for him having to leave his son but had no emotion where Veronica was concerned because I didn't manage to connect with her or feel for her in any way. Meeting Enrico as a young man allowed me to see him as a more rounded character. My image of him in `Revenge' when Kate went to him for help was totally different to the one I have of him now and it has made me want to re-read the other books with this new, somehow tougher Enrico in my head.

I just love Dana's writing, the plot is very well thought out, fast paced and full of action, and as I've said before with her work, every word is relevant. The story has everything, romance, revenge, `blood', `honor', suspense, action, you name it this book covers it. Dana Delamar is definitely an author to watch.

I found it fairly disapointing an Italian dictionary at the back would have been better at the back rather than the front.

This tale of vengeance tinged with romantic suspense surprised me with its intensity. Dana Delamar presents a story of a man driven by grief to embrace a life he tried to avoid, and a young woman who must overcome her fears if she is to achieve a peace that seems destined to elude their warring families. A novel of love and the burdens of honor set in a reality of ruthless violence, Malavita masterfully depicts characters challenged with tracing a path obscured by passions, pain and rage, and at its end leaves one wondering what lies ahead.

The author used words to paint her story as brush strokes from an artist. Brava, signora.
