Another Great Entry in the Series

Garry Ryan is a wonderful writer, and like all of the other books in this series, MALABARISTA is beautifully written and thoughtful. That may seem an odd description for a mystery, but Ryan's books aren't the standard-issue gay romances masquerading as mysteries. There are no hot-bodied gym bunnies, lustful gazes, or over-heated couplings. His characters are fully developed and emotionally complex, and Ryan spends as much time exploring their inner lives as he does on the mysteries. That's not to say his mysteries aren't engaging and satisfying, though, because they are, and that's particularly true of MALABARISTA. I'm not going to recount the plot, but the central image of the Malabarista (juggler) relates not just to plot, but also to the position main character Detective Lane finds himself in this time around. A great read.

I've read all of Ryan's books so far, and can hardly wait for the next. His works are right at the top with others such as: Bidulka, Craft, Zubro and all who write from a gay perspective without having to resort to repeated sex performances. Sex is important in life, but characterization depends on much more. Writing style, use of the language and storylines help make a book this successful.
