5.0 out of 5 stars You'll never hear a fresher guitar sound.., 1 Aug 2003
This review is from: Makorokoto (Audio CD)
This album is quite simply a MUST for anyone with even the remotest interest in African music. The Four Brothers create a rapid, hypnotic beat - listen to it on headphones to fully appreciate how the guitars lock together.

On each track, as the singing stops, there is a drum break and you know you're in for yet more of the sweetest guitar licks you can imagine in the "seben" or instrumental section.

I was lucky enough to see them play a few years ago - they put a smile on everyone's face. Both the other albums (Bros and Manga Manga) are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest ever recordings of guitar music, 15 Mar 2008

If you think about how much music John Peel and Andy Kershaw must have listened to down the years and that this album contains tracks which both listed in their all time top 5, then that gives you an indication of how great this album is. The review above giving this album three stars is ignorant nonsense. The Four Brothers were beyond the stars! Play this album at full volume on your stereo and hear the greatest level of musical creativity and skill possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars guitar frenzy, 26 July 2003
This review is from: Makorokoto (Audio CD)
I picked this up on spec and it has been a firm favourite ever since. Anyone who is entranced by the rhythm/lead guitar interplay of African music will be well satisfied, if not enraptured by this purchase. Every note of the inventive instrumental sections rings clear as a bell. The songs are without exception exhilarating, memorable and beautifully recorded.

I was lucky enough to see these guys play a few years ago and my autographed copy of Makorokoto is one of my most prized possessions. Even people who have no interest in African music have asked me about this CD. Get it get it get it!!!
