Bags are a favourite accessory in every fashion-conscious girl's wardrobe, and because vintage is currently a key look from couture to high street, vintage accessorising is a great way to subtly add style to any outfit. The bags in this book draw inspiration from the elegance, glamour and sophistication of styles from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. There are twenty original projects in total, with five inspired by each era. In addition, there is a purse pattern so that any of the bags in the book can be enhanced with a pretty matching purse. Four purses have been included to show ways to enhance the basic pattern to complement the matching bag. Patterns for all the bags are included in the book and all have seam allowances added already so that the book is not just inspirational, it's practical too, providing everything you need to know to take your bag from being a beautiful idea to a finished item. They make wonderful unique gifts, or you can make them all for yourself - because as every girl knows, you can never have too many bags!
About the Author
Emma Brennan started her own business in 1992, Charlie's Aunt, designing and producing handmade 'vintage inspired' clothing and hats. She is a qualified further education tutor and has taught courses in handbag, accessory and jewellery design. She has also staged fashion shows and given lectures on the historical influences of her designs. She lives in Australia.

I love this book. I have only made one of the bags so far, but I have had 2 people already ask if I will make them one, they look so good. The instructions are easy to follow and with patterns to make 20 different bags even if you only make a couple then you have covered the cost of a couple of dressmaking style patterns. It is easy to adapt the bags to your own style and embellishments.

I have just given this book to a needleworking friend. It was a joy to hear her comments as she looked through each page. She found the clarity of instructions and the patterns quite superb.There were gasps of delight from her as each page revealed yet another lovely vintage bag all simple in design but all having an elegance appropriate to the period.
I am so thrilled with the book I have immediately ordered it for my needleworking daughter!

Fab fab fab. Brilliant book, easy to follow instruction, and some really lovely bags to make. As soon as it arrived I just had to make one of the bags! In no time at all I had made my first. Buy it!

Bags with a bit of class!!
I bought this book and loved it so much that I bought one for my sister in law. We are both new to sewing and quilting but found it very easy to follow.

Not Bad But Not Great
This book has some lovely bags however there are a few drawbacks some of the instructions are difficult to fathom for a fairly new sewer, it needs more pictures or diagrams. Read more
