I had this book as a youngster and tried building the radio, but couldn't get it to work. At the time, I was given some alternative parts, but didn't have the knowledge to use them correctly - I think I was about 11 at the time, so hardly surprising.
Never one to give up, I picked up a copy of the book recently, and spent a few weeks searching for supplies, but I now have my radio working. (only 30 years late).
The parts are quite difficult to get hold of these days, but there are supplies available if you search hard enough.
The book is well structured, starting from a simple design and building on this. There is sufficient information to build the radio, and with sufficiently small steps that it will probably work correctly. The idea of building it on wood is great and gives a far more hands on feel than modern equivalents using little modules.
Great book, but only recommended for the nostalgic. Probably those like me who had the book as kids but didn't have the money or parts to build it at the time!
