Product Description

Product Description

The difference between a good toy and great one is the ability to entertain--and instruct--a child at the same time. The author, a woodworker with a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instructional Materials, combines his skills to show parents which toys are most effective for early childhood education, and then he gives them all the information they need to build those toys themselves. Nine fun projects--from Pattern Blocks and Dominos to a Puzzle Train--will get little ones learning--without them even realizing it!

This book shows you how to construct a number of toys that can be classed as educational. There are some templates but some of the projects lack templates and bigger blow ups of work in progress.
Great idea informing users fo the book about the types of stain and non toxic finishes to use.
Could have done with bigger exploded views of some of the projects and more templates.
Though overall a well set out book with many very useful plans and ideas.

Well stocked tool box 24 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
This book combines both technical details on woodworking toys and information on child development with the help of toys.
The book really assumes that the reader has easy access to a well stocked and equipped work shop as it calls for the use of more expensive machinery such as a band saw,a table saw and a morticer. However the book does go into great detail on each of the projects contained within the book. The picture quality is excellent with all of the projects being easy to make.

Making Toys That Teach 4 April 2011
Format:Paperback
An experienced woodcarver, my husband is delighted to find such a mine of new ideas for toys he can make for our great-grandchildren. He is pleased with the layout and appearance of the book; clarity of type and illustrations. The price was fair and delivery prompt. Thank you
