4.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Work! 21 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback
Quite frankly, this is THE best book on the subject of Talisman construction you will find today.

Completely devoid of any of the usual New Age 'fluff', that's so prevalent these days, Making Talismans is a comprehensively in-depth, step-by-step guide to Talisman construction, charging and activation, which covers several differing systems/approaches.

Every step is clearly explained, so that even relative newcomers to the magical arts will be able to work with this book, and obtain results.

Making Talismans is replete with the required correspondence tables, activation rituals and lists of Archangelic, Angelic and Spiritual forces that you will be working with in the construction of your Talismans, and even goes so far as to provide methods to measure their effectiveness and trouble-shoot issues.

Content-wise, this book is pretty much a must-have for any serious magical practitioner, and I've no hesitation in recommending it, in the highest terms.

The only reason I'm not able to give the title a full five-stars is due to the fact that it's badly let down by whoever edited it. The text is littered with frequent typos and grammatical issues, and the Appendices - in particular - suffer from evident missing text, and some very ham-fisted copy & replace issues, which will cause some confusion for the less well-read students.

That said, these issues on the part of the publisher shouldn't put you off making this an essential purchase, as the real meat of the work is worth far, far more than the token price being asked for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for making talismans but also more 14 Jan 2014
By Anna Meadows - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I read this book when the first edition came out several years ago. I was not terribly familiar with much of the subject matter at the time, but Nick Farrell is a great writer, a journalist by training and experience, who produces clear, entertaining prose. Through this work I learned a lot about magickal techniques, planetary magick, how talismans work, and much more. I recommended it to a friend who was interested in talismans and who knew nothing about the Kabbalah or much of the traditional Western Mystery Tradition, and she understood it easily and was inspired by it. With some books you get lots of theory but no practicality. With others, you get "how-to" but no clear sense of "why-to." With this you get both.

The new edition is even better. I don't often spring for new editions of books, but I'm glad I did this time.

I am opening a Jewelry Studio and am using this book for inspiration and ideas. It arrived speedily by two day air (Prime) and has been a joy to read although I have only had time to read it briefly. I do recommend this book and shipping was excellent.
