5.0 out of 5 stars Never mind "Making It".- Jamie you've made it!!! 24 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say about the Rock n Roll Diaries which hasn't already been said...well quite a lot actually!! Once I'd picked up this book I couldn't put it down and for a very good reason....because its a cracking read! Drawing on his experiences of being in a rock band from an early age, Jamie brings the characters to life and paints a vivd picture for the reader of trying to bond together one of the most unlikely group of young people, coupled with just the right amount of teenage angst.

Without spoiling anything for the reader, the story looks at the creation of a boyband and the RollerCoaster of emotions that comes with it, the highs and lows of each individual member, their differing personalities and social status and how they embark on a venture that will change their lives forever with the birth of The Rockateers.

I for one can't wait for the next instalment as its lighthearted and fun, albeit with some serious undertones. I noticed one quite negative review and had to ask myself why they felt the need to be so personal and derogatory. Jamie never professed to be Hemingway or Huxley and if these books get young people into sitting down to a cracking good read then he's done his job well. Jamie Scallion, you deserve every little last letter on your Writer's Guild membership and I personally hope to see more and more of your books on sale very soon. Thanks for making me smile x

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing 23 Aug. 2013
Format:Audio Download
I can honestly say I have never enjoyed an audiobook as much as this one. When I was contacted about reviewing Making It (The Rock 'n' Roll Diaries) I had not heard anything about the book or the author, after doing some quick research, quick because one glance at the synopsis had me wanting to read the book, I quickly replied with a big YES PLEASE. From the minute I began listening to Making It (The Rock 'n' Roll Diaries) I was hooked. Making It is the perfect audiobook, with an excellent narrator, background noises (traffic, typing, rustling bushes), and even music to go with the songs being written and played by the band. There is so much about this audiobook that I am going to split my review into different sections in order to give each component its best review. The additional bonus of having background noises only enhanced the story that much more.

The story has a way of instantly drawing you in. Each member of the band has their own sections in the chapters so we get to hear all sides of the story and how they feel about each other. We get to see how four completely different lads can somehow make a band work. Granted it's all in aid of Bert getting the girl he wants, but it soon ends up being about working together against the odds. having belief in yourself and your ability, and the hard truth about the real world. Jamie Scallion has done an amazing job of showing the reality of a dream and how hard you have to work to achieve it. When the book was coming to an end I almost threw my iPod, but thankfully there was a 'Bonus Song' which took us off one cliff, and put us down on another. I need to find out what happens next right now!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Making It 26 Jan. 2014
By Jenny, Wondrous Reads TOP 500 REVIEWER
If you like music and you like teen fiction, let me just tell you now: you need to read this book! It's funny, fast and honest too. It'll tell you how the music industry works, how hard it is to get a band noticed but also how amazing it is to do what you love in a group of your best friends. I read it really quickly and quickly because invested in The RockAteers and their burgeoning music career. It's exactly how I'd imagine The Inbetweeners if they decided to start a rock band!

The RockAteers is made up of four teenage members: Burt the lead singer, Egg the songwriter and guitarist, Tea the bassist and Clipper the drummer. They all come together through auditions held by Burt, and quickly form a well-received band who look like they're on the road to success. As with all groups of young guys, tensions rise, arguments are had and, as always, girls come between them. There's lots of swearing, raucous behaviour and angst - basically your typical teenage boys!

Each character has their moment to shine, and each stands out in their own way. If faced with choosing a favourite I'd probably have to go for Egg and his songwriting skills, though I'm also quite fond of Clipper. Burt annoyed me for the majority of the book, even though his actions can be related back to his difficult home life. He's your typical egotistical, self-involved frontman who doesn't care about anybody but himself, which I'm sure is true of a lot of real life bands and singers. I warmed to him more by the end of the book, but he's one I'd stay well away from if he actually existed!

I like how this book is written, with diary entries from the boys interspersed throughout. It gives an insight into what they're thinking and feeling, and provides some pretty funny moments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, Witty & Unpredictable! 23 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has everything! It's fresh, witty & unpredictable, with strong, likable characters. This makes it's easy to get caught up in the 'reality' of their lives. The book is cleverly written as it captures the highs and lows of daily life but it flows brilliantly into some hilarious scenes. I had lots of laugh out loud moments with this book and would say if you haven't read it, you're missing out!!...but be careful, it'll leave you wanting more!! Luckily there will be more. Hurry up Jamie..we don't want to wait!
