This book is a real Eye-opener,
By Elizabeth (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Making Relationships Work: How to Love Others and Yourself (Overcoming Common Problems) (Paperback)
I've read loads of books about relationships - how to find Mr Right - how to keep him! But this books goes beyond all the superficial things like 'finding a date' or 'how to play the dating game'. It actually explains why women (and men) get hooked into destructive patterns and can end up repeating the same bad choices in relationships. I was amazed at how many of my behaviours were hidden to me - and why I was slipping into them! I liked the sections on finding out what I really mean by 'love', how I might be looking 'in the wrong place' and the different 'styles' of loving people have. It explained a lot! Also the hidden drives that mean you go for a particular type of bloke. It is an eye-opener! If you're prepared to look deeply into yourself, discover some home-truths and really make some changes, then this book is a great starting point.

If - like me - you are looking for advice and help on relationship issues (past, present and future) you have probably already bought a shelf-full of books. I am reluctant to say that this book is poor, because what doesn't work for one person another person may find amazing. However, I do have lots and lots of books on relationships and this particular book did little for me

It's like having your own portable love guru,
By Zoe - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Making Relationships Work: How to Love Others and Yourself (Overcoming Common Problems) (Paperback)
What i like about this book is that it breaks down into two parts: learning to understand and accept who you are firstly and secondly discovering why you want a relationship and how to maintain one. After each chapter, there are a list of questions you can use to ask yourself, like what is your own personal concept of the word "relationship" based on the people you have associated with (friends, parents, work) to questions like describe your ideal partner. This is not a how-to book, rather, its more of a book that you reflect on and look within yourself to find out what works best for you.
