If this text had been available when I was studying this would have been my first choice. It is not easy - as the text adequately explains - how to define and decribe the processes and the final product post-modern and devising theatre practices achieve and from where this practice has emerged. Still the text is structured in a way that provides a details and engaging account of past practices, practitioners and the attempts by emerging practices and practitioners to develop their unique brands of theatre, interrogation of theatrical devises and the varied and wide selection of outputs inside and outside the theatre black box. The writing style flows and it presents cogent and well paced argument and polemic. The date of publication is 2007 and I only wish it had been written earlier, still it is here and my research around the subject and how it intersects dance studies is richer for its contribution.

As a Drama graduate, this book was invaluable to me not only in practical sessions of devising, but for the whole three years of my course. Very easy reading which is always a plus after many essay-writing late nights!
