Product Description

Product Description

This book shows pilots how to identify and then confront landings, as well as various specific scenarios.

From the Back Cover

This book aims to develop in pilots a keen sense of awareness in each of the three major areas of the landing procedure: recognition of the landing situation and understanding its true nature, knowledge of how to meet and weigh each task required against personal skill and limitation, and ability to evaluate the airplane′s capacity to meet challenge. Each chapter presents and defines a specific landing situation so that pilots can quickly recognise it in the cockpit and institute corrective procedures. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

You are not going to make perfect landings just by reading this book but it does add all the tips and tricks your Instructor didnt mention.
Almost anyone can take off in a light aircraft (it almost does this bit by itself really, thats why Instructors let you do this on the first lesson). Anyone can get by doing turns of a sort but the planning, preparation and execution of a good landing is what defines a good pilot.
I think this excellent little book covers this particular skill under all the circumstances a private pilot is likely to encounter from Hedgerow to Heathrow.
Far cheaper than a heavy landing inspection fee too.

Single best advice I ever had 30 Mar 2010
By Frederick Pilot - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I'm nominating this at the best advice I ever had on landings. His suggestion to always try to be at 400 feet when on final works especially well when away from the home airport. It also is a great help when talking to a tower that grants a straight-in approach. It allows you to make use of the airports elevation, in case you hadn't been using that information. Another tip is to aim for the second stripe and land on the third. Do that at the home airport and you'll be making spot landings exactly where the tower asks you to land.

Was hoping for new insights or suggestions for better landings, but it was just a hash over of the normal teachings.

The book is a good outline of how to make a good landing repeatedly. Recommended for student pilots and rusty pilots
