Product Description

Synopsis

The 1990s have seen lesbian sexuality celebrated as never before. After centuries of being an invisible or despised identity, lesbianism is suddenly "chic". But behind this new profile lurk the same old tired stereotypes about lesbians and lesbian sex. This is a fully illustrated guide to lesbian sexuality, looking at the realities of lesbian sexual experience. Four written sections - the body, sexual imagination, sex gear and sex acts - each contain comprehensive alphabetical entries.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely feel for the real world of Gay Women, especially from the mid 90's, 22 Jan 2007
By Lloyd R. Stevenson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Making Out: Book of Lesbian Sex and Sexuality (Paperback)
I nearly feel like I'm hardly entitled to be reading this book. There's a couple of fairly big differences between myself and many of my friends, namely they are Women and they are gay/bi, neither of which I am. I've been attracted to some of the gay female literature simply because they are my friends and to be a friend involves being able to understand those you call friends. With so much of the `glamour' (read glossy, gratuitous and often exploitive) work being fantasy, high gloss male fantasy mostly at that, this is a great read for coming back to reality. If you really care about someone, do you care if they've got large perfectly shaped breasts? Do you care if they've got a tiny waist? Do you care if they've got shaved underarms? Do you care if they've got long perfectly shaped legs? No, not really to any of those, they simply don't matter.

However:- If you really care about someone, Do you care if they know they are accepted for who they are, unconditionally? Do you care if they feel understood? Do you care if they know they are loved for who they are? Absolutely yes to all the above.

This book is now over 10 years old and nearly feels a little dated by some of the clichéd images but, even if it's clichéd, if it's someone's life and existence it is very real and valid and deserves to be respected for that.

There is a place for the high gloss silicon, plastic and airbrush fantasy pictorials shot in locations few can afford to ever experience that are fed to us all, fantasy has it's place. More importantly though is that before we go there in knowing fantasy we can look through a work such as this and feel and accept the realities. This book is wonderful, even for a straight bloke. The high gloss fantasy stuff that the mainstream marketing machine would have us swallow may make us go "Cooor yeah, ya would wouldn't ya?!!" however this book touches much deeper, one feels they can see hear feel and taste everything. This book makes one want to share the participants bliss and orgasm and even if not involved still want to hold them cradled afterwards as they slept in their post orgasmic bliss, just to honour their joy, to validate their bliss. This is one of those special texts that captures the realities of what is, not staged, not the fantasy of what someone's imagination can create and capture on film. The realities may be that to some degree the photos had to be staged, after all, the participants were there willingly playing after consenting to a photographer being there taking photos but the feel is that most participants were pretty much able to share and be and do as per normal. This makes it feel like a special little window these women have allowed us into their world. Some of the couples here are represented in `Nice Girls Don't, Erotische Fotografien' (another later work of Laurence Jaugey-Paget's). It's nice to hope that this doesn't just represent dredging old images, but the pleasure and trust built by longevity in a relationship.

Besides how real it is in what it portrays, it's still a good read for we straight blokes of the Planet since, after all, just like gay girls, if we are anything of a person we also should want to know how to make a girl happy and blissfully fulfilled, that's part of being a worthwhile partner. This book is a credit to the Authors, anything that helps people regardless of gender, preference, kink or anything else enjoy their own body and sexuality without guilt or judgement or inhibition is a beautiful thing. Cheers Girls!! Lloyd
