2.0 out of 5 stars Review from an experienced rubber garmet maker 17 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book out of interest as I have been making rubber garments for many years. Although it covers a lot of the basics it certainly is lacking great detail to help the beginner make even the simplest of items. No detail is present on how to fix your garments as you work on them, the same can be said for the step by step processes. Simply saying now join the pieces together is not really helpful!
Buy this book if you have no idea whats what about making rubber gear. If you have even the most slightest of experience you will not learn anything new from this book

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book! 30 Mar 2004
By Isara
Format:Paperback
Most people who have learned how to create latex clothing have done so through trial and error, underground classes, and cooperative efforts. Finally, there is a book which describes the process!
Sian-Kate Mooney has easy to understand examples and simple projects to get even the most basic beginner started.
Some of the extremely valuable hints I've learned from my own research are not presented in this book, nor is there a clear description about which adhesives and thinner need to be used (There is an index in the back which says what the adhisives and thinners are called, but there are easier-to-find alternatives out there. Namely, rubber cement and Bestine). So some other research for those items may be necessary for people with no previous introduction to the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Latex Clothes by Sian -Kate Mooney 1 April 2004
Format:Paperback
This book is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in latex clothing. The book is well illustrated throughout, as the author provides a step by step guide to producing latex garments beginning with materials needed and gluing simple seams, to inserting boning for corset making. No actual patterns are included with the book, but the illustrations show simple clothes being constructed, and there are guidelines on adapting other patterns to produce latex clothes. There is also a comprehensive suppliers section listing British companies that provide materials for all stages of the latex clothes making process. An excellent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good beginners book 13 July 2009
Format:Paperback
Great book for beginners, showing pictures and diagrams of "how to", book didnt have any patterns in it which was a shame. It has tutorials so you can practise on small latex bits before trying a full size garment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 19 May 2012
Format:Paperback
A terrible and mostly useless guide to making latex clothing, but sadly the only book around. Gutted that I gave my copy to charity as it's now going for £90 on here though under no circumstances should anyone spend that amount of money on this book and I could not in good conscience charge even 90 pence for it.

If you want to learn about making latex clothing there is an excellent blog at [...]. I have been manufacturing latex fashion for over 5 years and everything I have learned I either worked out for myself or adapted from sewing production techniques. You would be much better off just having a go yourself with the information available on the net instead of wasting money on this book, you will get it right eventually.
