I am a great admirer of Carls, both as a rider and trainer. I love the care he takes of his horses, that each one is cared for a a special individual and particularly he fact they are looked after for life in so many cases. His writing is as though he is chatting to you, which is generally great, but occasionally it is easy to get a little confused with horses nicknames and the general huge cast of people involved. I bought the Kindle edition and I don't know if it is different to the book, but I would have loved to see some photos of horses and people. Names to faces works for me every time. however, I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in horses and dressage.

Great read and very entertaining. Lovely stories about some of the antics Carl got up to in his youth, the horses in his life and his well earned rise to stardom.

Carl's story is one of those 'hard to put down' books that is full of all his struggles and triumphs told in a very candid way.
What shines through is his total love of horses and their welfare, whether they are gold medalists or hairy ponies.
His ability to read what each horse needs for success is a gift that has brought him his dreams !

I am half way through Carl Hesters biography and I have enjoyed every page. His frank, and at times amusing, recollection of youthful antics and his journey to become a master of his sport, shows him for the lovely person he is. A must read for any dressage fan.
