This excellent survey of the many quilt layouts that are possible through using the basic prinicples of log cabin patchwork goes beyond the well-known Barn Raising and Courthouse Steps blocks into dozens of variations. Starting with a historical survey and examples from different geographical locations, the authors have developed contemporary designs and shown how they've gone from the example to the new quilts. Other contemporary work as well as their own is included among the many photographs. A must-have for the serious quilter's library, this is a source of inspiration I've returned to again and again.
