Book Description

14 Oct 2010
This title presents 25 adorable projects to keep your little one looking cute and comfortable all year round. Designer Rob Merrett guides you through projects for cute, stylish and practical clothes for babies aged from 0 to 3 years, including skirts, hats, shirts, jackets, dresses and more. There are unisex items like a romper suit in cosy towelling material or the jacket and trouser set, as well as fun accessories like a scarf to keep little children warm. The last thing a busy mother needs is fiddly stitches and tricky techniques, so each piece has been designed to be quick and simple to make yet still look great, and should you need to brush up on a stitch, there's a useful section at the back to guide you. All the projects are made using materials that are kind to a baby's skin and easy to wash, so you don't have to worry about stains. Plus, they make use of clever fastenings so that they can be put on and taken off a wriggling baby in no time. This title includes full-size patterns and templates for every project.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but inaccurate 6 Feb 2012

This book looks lovely and the patterns are very cute. I was slightly disappointed that several of the patterns only went up to age 1 when the book said 0-3 but the older kids' patterns are lovely too. The problem with this book is the same one that I have had with other pattern books from this publisher - it just isn't very accurate. Most of the patterns are in 3 sizes on the pattern sheet, but you are only told one size to cut of the various rectangles and extra bits needed. The first pattern I made from this required far more fabric than the book suggested. Fabric amounts are only given for one size which may be the problem. I've just finished making a top for my daughter who is small for her age and it was clearly going to be way too short for her. Fortunately I realised and added in an extra piece to make it longer - but this is frustrating in what is otherwise an excellent collection of ideas for beautiful-looking clothes. I wouldn't buy this if you are a complete beginner and hopefully the publisher will take note and improve their technical editing.

5.0 out of 5 stars inspiring book 19 April 2012

At last, a pattern book with boys cloths that i actually like in it!!! The patterns are divided into chapters for each age group and there is a chart on page 7 that gives you sizes in inches and cm so that you can measure up your child. I would have liked a bit more info on how to make the patterns larger as there are some for the younger age group that i would love to make for my big boy! good step by step instructions and all patterns are at the back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Making Babies Clothes 19 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is not for the novice. The instructions are difficult to follow and in some cases, wrong. Far from getting 25 different patterns, it is a few, drawn several times over in different colours.

Very poor value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love the projects 6 Jun 2014

It feels like all the projects are of a varied and type that most people can manage. Even the little 'boy' type projects could easily be made girly and then most could easily fulfil my wants for all things feminine - got a grand daughter after 3 sons followed by three grandsons!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely 14 Aug 2013

Great book but I would have been flummoxed by some of the instructions if I hadn't been an experienced dressmaker. First project for my granddaughter turned out really well.
