Book Description

5 Oct 2011
During his ten years at the helm, Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez turned a niche British car maker into a profitable global business. Not your normal corporate "how I did it", this is a unique, lavishly illustrated blend of business case and personal memoir. The plot zooms along like a thriller - no business platitudes and all the insider details. We're with Dr. Bez as he sleeplessly awaits Bill Ford's verdict on buying out Aston Martin. We get up-close with the intense challenges of running an exclusive car manufacturer and see just how a global luxury brand is developed. A car enthusiast and engineer with a vision, Bez also shares his thoughts on the future of the automobile - and his plans for Aston Martin.

no read it yet and wasn't expecting a boob this size, wow its big, way over A4, I was going to take it on a plane to read but in cattle class its just too big for the tray or your lap on a flight , very impressive, not read it yet as finishing another book off but so farf all looking good, excellent supplier who despite my reservations of it coming from usa and possibly being hit with customs charges never materialised. very happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful 10 May 2014
I had the dubious pleasure in knowing Dr Bez. He is one of the most arrogant and egotistical people I have ever met. He claims successes that were not down to him and were in place before he joined the company. Most of it is fiction and self adulation, and simply not true. This is the man that inherited a successful and profitable company and via his string of new product business decisions ( some acceptably very attractive) brought the company to it's knees financially. As a designer he was ok but as a business man and head of a company he was a disaster. One of the worst books on Aston Martin I've read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good read, shame about the pictures 13 Oct 2013
By idic01
This book is in its most part an autobiography of Dr. Bez focusing on his Aston Martin years. It's very well written, it flows well and tells you about the man and a few anecdotes about the company. If you're ever lucky enough to own a DB9 or another one of the models created under Dr. Bez's leadership, this book gives a good if slightly dispassionate insight into the people the made it all happen.

With it being published by teNeues, one of Europe's leading coffee table publishers, the thing that surprised me about this book was the poor graphic execution. The text is large and lavishly spaced making this book almost 3kg. As a result, the photos are small and far between, and many are not much larger than a stamp in order to fit the deluge of text.

All in all, with a good bit of text editing and a more generous approach to laying out the images, this would have been a 5 star book. Fans of the brand and of the man will enjoy it nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book! 25 Oct 2013
By Kaj - Published on Amazon.com
As an Aston owner and a lover of the marque I have been eagerly awaiting this book for a long time, ever since it was first announced. I was lucky enough to pick up an autographed copy at the dealership in Austin when Dr. Bez was visiting and it has been worth the wait. Dr. Bez explains his own background, his tenure at the helm of Aston and his own views on the present and future of Aston in a manner that is all at once purposeful and efficient, while simultaneously being introspectful and artistic. In such a way, this book very much embodies what the modern day Aston Martin cars are all about.

Aside from the narrative, the pictures in this book are beautiful, the pages have a weight to them that makes you appreciate the simple act of turning each one, and it very much feels like both a work of literature and a work of art. This book is truly a must have for any Aston owner or fan of the marque today. Here's hoping Dr. Bez stays at Aston well beyond 2015!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for Aston Martin lovers 18 Feb 2014

I ordered this book as a gift for my husband and he loves it! As a longtime fan of the brand and someone who already was familiar with the cars, he is really enjoying reading about the history of the company and the influence of Urlich Bez. With lots of photographs of the cars themselves, I would recommend this book to any Aston Martin lover.
