Making Advances: a "must have resource" 12 Oct 2012
By Darlene A. Townsend - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Making Advances: A Comprehensive Guide for Treating Female Sex and Love Addicts (Paperback)

"Making Advances" is a beautifully prepared compendium sharing the wisdom of nearly a dozen clinicians highly skilled in working with female Sex and Love Addicts (SLA) patients. Every therapist needs to have it on their desk for quick reference after they first have thoroughly examined it. Every individual who is or who cares about a person who is a Sex and Love addict will find their understanding enriched by reading and often consulting this excellent resource.

Must reading! 5 Oct 2012
By Jennifer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Making Advances is a terrific example of the best that can happen when 10 experienced professionals collaborate to fill a gap in the psychotherapy and addiction literature. The result is a unique, thorough and detailed guide to assessment and treatment of female sex and love addicts. This much needed book will provide therapists with the tools they need to understand and effectively counsel a neglected group of women -- sex and love addicts -- as well as their partners. Grounded in research and thoroughly documented, this well-written book indeed constitutes the definitive resource for therapists to help addicted women overcome their past, heal themselves, and rebuild their relationships with partners and children, I highly recommend it.

Finally! A ground breaking book that fills a long standing void in the clinical treatment of female sex addicts. The clinicians/authors are experts in this work and employ a practical and focused method that will support both the client and the therapist alike. This is a must have book for every therapist working with females dealing with sex addiction.

Very useful guide for clinicians 23 Oct 2012
By Bill Herring, LCSW - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Many therapists assess and treat addictive/compulsive sexual behavior in a way that inadvertently perpetuates a subtle gender bias that minimizes important differences in the way men and women manifest this complex behavioral syndrome. This compilation brings together the best thinking of some of the most prominent theorists and practitioners working with female sex and love addicts. The result is an extremely useful compendium that provides a whole new level of lucidity to this under-served population. I've been working within the field of addictive/compulsive sexual behavior for many years and I learned many helpful perspectives I had never considered before I was halfway through. This is a successful culmination of a shared commitment to raise the entire field to a higher standard.

I loved this book. not only did it give me insight to being a help for ladies struggling with sex and love addiction, but I see where I need to be healthier too. Although I am not a licensed therapist, I was still able to understand the sometimes complex recovery processes. Thank you, Marnie, et al
