It's Cask Strength but it's Maker's smooth. Though it's bottled at a higher proof than either Maker's Mark or Maker's 46 bourbons, Maker's Mark Cask Strength has a lower proof than most cask strength whiskies. To us, a higher proof can overwhelm a bourbon with a heavy alcohol taste. And at Maker's Mark, we've always been about creating whiskies that taste yummy. Maker's Mark is the original handmade premium bourbon. Created by Bill Samuels, Sr. to be a bourbon that he would enjoy drinking himself.
Maker's Mark is smooth and approachable with an easy finish - a true contrast to hot, harsh whiskies that blow your ears off and a downright revolutionary idea at the time. Maker's Mark is made slowly in small batches, in our National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. While it makes any cocktail better, a lot of folks still prefer it on its own or over ice with a splash of water.

JD and JB are basically now mixing fodder. Or heavily on the rocks. This however can be sipped neat or with a drop of water and not embarrass itself like the other brands. Sure it is slightly more expensive but not shockingly so unless the other brands are on offer. Even if they are on offer this is still worth the extra.
