A note from the author
Let me start with a confession. When I started making videos, I made just about every mistake that’s it's possible to make! I could have avoided a lot of frustration if I had had just a bit of good advice. that’s where this guide comes in. I want this to be the book I should have read the day I bought my first camcorder.
The background to this book is that after spending many years with a passion for photography, I set myself the challenge of trying to make wildlife films using a run of the mill, home camcorder. Having learnt many lessons and made many mistakes, I now find that I am often asked questions by people who watch my films. Mostly people want to know what sort of camera to use, or what editing programme to buy. I try and respond to everyone with as much advice as I can. Those answers form the backbone of this guide. My wildlife films are now widely watched on the internet and I have a good idea of the many easy steps you can take to save money, make better videos and have fun doing it. My website of photographs and wildlife films also has videos and tips to compliment this book. Wildaboutfilms.com .

A great little read this one for anyone, like myself, who is thinking of getting a DSLR (like the 600d) specifically for making video. A lot of 600d books out there have a chapter on making video, but this one focuses (no pun intended) just on that task, looking at the Canon EOS, the Nikon, and briefly the Sony Alpha. The author is a working film maker, so everything in this book is a tale of experience, which shows not only the advantages, but also the important limitations of DSLR video making.

The Author also maintains a website/blog (address in the book) which he uses to update what you need to know as technology and firmware march onwards.

For a price that's less than a Costa coffee (insert your own tax joke here) you really can't go wrong. If you are thinking of getting a DLSR that will be primarily used for video, read this book first!

2.0 out of 5 stars desperately needs proof reading 18 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think it's a great idea that amateur photographers/videpgraphers publish a little booklet about their experiences. So, well done to Alex Sally for trying, BUT, he really should proof read his articles before publishing and charging for the book. It is full of typos, spelling mistakes and missing words etc. etc. Also, he repeats himself over and over again, but I guess this is his enthusiasm running away with him. At best, this book is for complete novices, and to be fair, in this regard does offer some good tips on filming and buying equipment, but I do mean strictly for complete beginners.
Alex Sally needs to sit down and read his own book and seriously consider a complete re-write. He does take pretty good photos and video after all, so why not spend a little more time and thought on producing this book.
