Book Description

18 Sep 2012

The path to success is littered with great ideas poorly marketed. Don't let yours be one of them.

"A little book with a very big message. Your idea is worth a great story, well told."
SETH GODIN — Author of All Marketers Tell Stories

Make Your Idea Matter is a call to action for entrepreneurs, emerging brands and anyone with a great idea, who knows that to stand out in today's noisy world they need to tell a better story.

It is full of bite-sized business and brand storytelling ideas originally sparked on Bernadette Jiwa's award-winning business blog TheStoryofTelling.com.

Use this book as both inspiration and guide to help you tell the best stories you can tell about your business, your ideas and the work that matters to you.

You don't have to start on page one and work your way through, or even read it from front to back. Each topic stands on its own so dip in and out. Reawaken a thought or an idea you've already had. Spark new ones. Discover different ways of thinking about your business, what you do and how you tell your story. Then go make your idea matter.

ADVANCE PRAISE FOR MAKE YOUR IDEA MATTER

"Every story you tell is a choice, and the choices you make matter. For best results make the choice to read this book."
CHRIS GUILLEBEAU — Author of The $100 Startup

"Make Your Idea Matter' is a book that's easy to get into and hard to escape. Full of valuable, original, engaging content. Bernadette Jiwa has been likened to 'a female Seth Godin' and I have to agree."
ROBERT GERRISH — Director of Flying Solo, Australia's Micro Business Community

"The most brilliant people I have known have the rare ability to distill complexity to an essence. This is what Bernadette Jiwa does for entrepreneurs in Make Your Idea Matter."
MARK SCHAEFER — Author of Return on Influence & The Tao of Twitter

"If I discover one useful insight in a business book, I consider the time well spent. This surprising little book delivers them in spades!"
TOM ASACKER — Author of A Clear Eye for Branding

"Now is your time to make a difference, your time to be the best at what you love doing, your time to use your skills to enrich not only your own life, but the lives of each and every individual you do business with.
More and more small businesses are taking impressive leads in their industries, making giant multinationals look cumbersome and unfriendly in comparison. You can do the same, and the first thing on your "to do" list should be to read this book.
Bernadette has written a fantastic collection of stories to inspire, to provoke, to make you think, to generate ideas, and to bring your business to the next level. It doesn't matter if your idea has been done before, because as Bernadette rightly points out, it hasn't been done by you."
DAVID AIREY — Author of Logo Design Love

2.0 out of 5 stars very light on content 6 May 2013
By Tolu A
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Maybe I have just read too many modern sales and marketing books or this book was just really light on original content. I could not quite tell if this was meant to be some feel good self help book or just random thoughts of a blogger.

This book tried hard to follow the format of 'rework' by the 37signals guys but didn't quite have the same flow. The one or two points of original ideas I found in this book were great but you get no help from the author in learning how to implement them.

I am left no wiser in making my idea matter unfortunately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book 15 Oct 2012
By Vikram
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bernadette Jiwa is a Female "Seth Godin" who inspires a lot of people through her blog at [...]

This book is truly inspirational and by end of it I'm sure you will be motivated.

Couple of points why this book matters from my perspective,

--Byte Size Powerful lessons
--Easy to read
--You need not start the book from cover page, you an open any chapter and read it from there.
--Truly inspirational Content
--When I was reading individual chapters,I felt that it should not end and should go on
--I feel each Chapter requires a separate book on its own

Some thoughts from the book:

1.Every Product or Service was born from a problem that needed to be solved or a desire that was waiting to be fulfilled E.g Online Check-in,Fruit Smoothies in a bottle,Apple store Genius Bar.

2.While Tactics are necessary to spread your idea, but in the long run its more important that you have an idea that matters.

3.The secret to the success of Facebook,Pampers,Instagram,Basecamp and on and on comes to one thing:the ability to stand in the customers shoes and see the world from that persons point of view.

and Many Many more....

I would recommend this book to all of you as it motivates you definitely in taking some action or would make you to think differently in certain situations.

Hopefully it might also make you the next Zuckerberg or Instagram or Steve Jobs.

Thanks again Bernadette for Inspiring me :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brillant framework to make your idea shine 5 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
Bernadette has a great blog, The Story of Telling, and this is some of it condensed, quite brilliantly, into a very handy book. She explains why you need a mission for your business, helps you differentiate your idea, and does it all in such simple and compelling language, that you feel you have a wise experienced brand strategist at your elbow, helping you work it all out and enthusing you in the process. She provides you with stories and examples to show you how it's done. So, don't wait around - make your idea matter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Priceless little gems 3 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bernadette Jiwa is a story-teller for businesses. She is the kind of writer you turn to when you're having a bad day, or you need a nugget of inspiration to get you going. This book is full of priceless little gems. Her skill is in noticing the details in everyday situations which she deftly weaves into a story. Her writing is succinct and simple, and she really does have the knack of making you look at things inside out and upside down. It doesn't matter whether you dip in and out of this book or read it all in one go, but you will go back to it again and again.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok read 1 May 2014

I found this book hard to stick with. There's a few gems in there and it's worth the read, but nothing ground breaking and at times repetitive.
