About the Author

Lucy Martin and Bella Mehta combine the support, objectivity and encouragement of a mentor, with the commercial and technical knowledge essential to any start-up business. The authors are both successful business owners who share a passion for empowering and enabling women to fulfil their personal and professional potential. Lucy is an ex-city lawyer whose agency, "Gina's Nannies" supports women returning to work. She is also the founder and director of Wimbledon Women in Business. Bella Mehta's company, "Enspiral" coaches and trains women (and men) in the move from employment to self-employment, and in their search for career satisfaction and a better work-life balance. Both are experienced writers, speakers, facilitators and networkers, whose collective skills and background make them uniquely qualified to advise women on starting their own business.

One of the best things about this book is what it isn't. It's not smug or patronising and it doesn't leave anything out. It also does something quite unusual - it gently, but firmly, nudges you into making a decision about starting your own business. If, like me, it's something you've dreamt of for ages, but never quite had the nerve to do, then this book is perfect. By the end of it you'll either have decided entrepreneurship is not for you or, more likely, it'll give you the confidence to go for it without looking back. Practical and inspiring.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is extremely comprehensive and very practical, covering all aspects of running a business.

Importantly, it challenges the myth that money is the primary motivation for everyone, citing a wide variety of reasons that women choose to set up their own business.

It covers aspects that I haven't seen in other business books such as the practicalities of juggling childcare, etc. Also, it has an excellent section on making the decision whether you want to set up your own business, helping you to explore whether it is a good decision for you.

I like the examples of real women in business given throughout the book, it shows that this book is heavily grounded in reality not just management theory.

This book lived up to the promises, and has given me the confidence to take the leap (I've been teetering on the edge for some years now). I have the confidence to take the first steps without the awful dread of failure. There's so much information in this book, failure is not an option!
