Format:Audio CD
As a big fan of Bread I just had to buy this album, upon listening it sounds very obvious that the tracks have all been newly remastered and they are CRYSTAL CLEAR, infact it sounds like they have been completely stripped down, cleaned and remixed/mastered, this is expecially noticeable on 'Mother Freedom' you can actually FEEL the bass drum and I've noticed things on that track that I have never before.
Another great thing is that this album shows off the late James Griffin's amazing talent a lot more than other compilations, 'Friends And Lovers', 'Take Comfort'. 'Dream Lady', 'Make It By Yourself', 'Let Me Go' etc, and there is also some of the classsic David Gates album tracks on there too, (Note there is no 'Guitar Man', 'Baby Im-A Want You' or 'Aubrey' all on the other 'Best of' CDs).
All in all, even if you have ALL the studio albums like me, you should still buy this for the exceptional sound quality.

Format:Audio CD
Some of the most beautiful ballads in pop history were written and interpreted
by David Gates as member of the soft-rock band called Bread. I have the original
LP from 1972 and had always longed for a new copy on CD to avoid the "wear-out"
sound after having listened to it along decades. Not only did I find it on
Amazon but I could never haver expected such a brilliant remastered sound.
This is probably the best restored music around. If I don't give it 5 stars
is because of the rest of the songs, the non-ballads, which are a bit like pre-
punk or pre-hard rock ones which I hate. However its purchase is worth every
penny of it.

I actually bought this for one track, "Been too long on the road", which I've always liked for its changes of mood and pace, and which, for some reason, is very hard to come by. However, I've always been partial to the lost/unrequited love ballads of David Gates, sung in his high countryish tenor, which are part of my early working years. Mr. Gates might have written some rather nonsensical lyrics in these, but his gift for melody and the arrangements make up for that.
However, like all pop/rock acts, it's not possible to come up with consistently first-rate material, and this CD has its share of pretty dire stuff. It's a pity, because some excellent tracks ("Diary", "Aubrey", "Look what you've done", "Yours for life") could have been put in in place of the dross. At least they included only the only two tracks worth listening to from the final LP "Lost without your love".
Alas, to get all the good stuff of the Bread canon, you need to buy a few CDs and put up with the duplication.
