2.0 out of 5 stars Too many cliches for me 15 Feb. 2012
By Isaiah Schisler - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I began reading this book to see how a free book would hold up and it actually did hold up to the cliche "you get what you pay for". To me this book was just filled with too much minutiae to weed through to find any good points that were in there. I had to stop at the hole part about working 80 hours and when your competition sleeps you need to be working. Then (in honor of this book) "the last straw" for me was when the author says you need to be able to multitask, doing 2 or more things at a time, he mentions also going over work papers while your family sleeps on vacation.

In my opinion this book has a lot more of a old-school mentality when it comes to running a business and being successful.

4.0 out of 5 stars More of an advice book than a "How-To" Book 19 Oct. 2012
By Charles Franklin - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I chose this book because it was a free book on one of the topics I have been devouring lately-entrepreneurship. I was surprised to learn that this book was written by Michael Mann, the founder of, an organization that I had been assisted by in my volunteer work. In short, this book is not your "get-rich-quick" business books instead it's more of a "Here's some advice for you when you start your business book". For any person that is seeking to start their own business, this is a book you want to refer back to because it offers some real solid advice on some issues you want to reflect on your book. If you're not interested in entrepreneurship or business ownership, this book may not be the book for you.
1. Great Advice- The book starts off an inspirational note about what it takes to be the best. This is the most uncompromising part of the book. You will find bold statements that will catch you off-guard, but at the end of the day will say "Yeah, I knew that." Other books that I like (like The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure andMaking Your Life Work: How to Make Money in any Economy: How to Create a Rewarding Life (Creating Lifestyle) have similar messages, so I really liked this aspect of the book.
2. Concise- This book pulls no punches. It goes right from the beginning presenting everything that should be essential when planning your business strategy
3. Expert advice-The authors know what they are talking about )or at least really believe that they do)

1. No actual specifics on the specifics of choosing a business-Unlike the title says, this book does not give you a step-by-step process for making a million dollar business or identifying businesses in which you can make millions. Its focus is on providing the general principles and knowledge you need to succeed at any business, and hopefully make it a million dollars. There are no extended "How I did it" stories, rather there is advice and then a couple of brief examples of how successful companies have implemented the strategy. if you have a business idea or business, this will work. If not, you may be left overwhelmed.
2. Fast-paced- For a relatively small book, this book is fast-paced. You are carried through the process of incorporation, hiring, motivating employees and firing employees within a couple of chapters. For those who are not used to pace, it can be a bit overwhelming!

This book is like having a fast-paced conversation with the author himself as he points out ideas that have made his business successful. If you are looking for an inexpensive and free resource to help boost your entrepreneurship skills, this book is worth a look.

1.0 out of 5 stars FALSE FAKE RATINGS, DO NOT BUY! 26 April 2013
By cantthinkofaname - Published on
Many of the reviews of this book are from Mike Mann's employee's. Can you trust a book written by a guy who has to have his paid employees write good reviews about it? In my own opinion, a high school kid could write a book with more sound business advice than this guy. Please, save your money. This book is terrible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alyssa 17 July 2012
By Alyssa - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
This book completely changed my philosophy on work. I used to think I went to work to earn money to buy toys and eventually retire. I will totally admit: I was selfish. Mike's book made me realize that there is a bigger reason for working, to give back. The great part about it is that I don't always have to give money. I can donate my professional services to a nonprofit and help in my own way.

Of course, the business advice is great as well. I've tossed around the idea of starting my own business. I doubt I'll ever get to it, but the book has a lot of great advice. Even if you don't want to start a business, there's a lot of great information in here that you can bring to the table at your current company to help it grow. I know I'll definitely use some of the principles I learned in here to further my career.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little overrated... 25 Jan. 2011
By Joseph Ratliff - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Read through the book, and there is some good, general "wealth building" information inside...but nothing breathtaking or revolutionary.

The book is available as a free download as well (PDF). Read through that version before buying a copy IMO.
