Brilliant, again! 25 Mar 2010
Format:MP3 Download
I thoroughly enjoyed this album. My first experience of E.S. Posthumus was with their previous album Unearthed, which was themed around a number of ancient cities, and I fell in love with their unique blend of classical, tribal and electronic styles - you wouldn't think it could work so well, except for the fact that it does!

Makara is, if possible, even better. It was a roller-coaster ride of excitement and tension all the way through, and well worth buying. Only two tracks don't completely work for me: the adaptations of the St Matthew Passion and the Moonlight Sonata (I do like those two tracks immensely, I just prefer them in their original format).

I only wish I could buy Makara as a CD in order to have the hard copy!

Absolutely bowled over by this 3rd album. The 2nd was fantastic and this just carries on where the other one left off. Bach's St Matthews Passion and Beethoven Moonlight Sonata as you have never heard them before! A couple of slow tracks as well to complement the full on percussion and driving music with vocals, drums and guitar with shades of Bach to Wagner mixed in. Masterley writing. Highly recommended listening.

E.S. Posthumus produce interesting albums that give them a very distinct voice in the music world, however I dislike this album more than their previous releases, Cartographer [2CD] and Unearthed [Us Import] because of the absence of the rather exotic woodwind and percussive elements that made previous albums stand out. This album instead sounds like a flurry of disjointed action tracks that sound impressive in their own right, but somehow sound like they are lacking the charm of previous releases. If you like Posthumus' action tracks from previous albums you will likely enjoy this, but the slower more chilled sound of previous releases have been scaled down to a handful of cues. Overall, this is a good CD that would sound great in the car, but certainly not for sitting down at the end of the day to unwind to.
