Amazon.co.uk Review

Lucy Cousins' hugely popular creation Maisy the mouse returns in Maisy's Year, which focuses on all the activities that Maisy and her friends enjoy throughout the year. Any book aimed at pre-schoolers that has plenty of interactive features is bound to be a winner, and Maisy's Year contains lots of flaps to lift to reveal further pictures hidden underneath, and wheels that can be turned to reveal different objects, adding a new aspect to the picture each time.

Spring shows Maisy at home on the farm, bottle-feeding the baby lambs. The stable door opens to reveal a mare and her new foal, and there are hidden surprises beneath the flaps, like the bats hanging upside-down from the stable roof and the snails on the window sill. In the Summer time, Maisy and her friends are at the beach. Maisy splashes in the sea whilst Charley the crocodile is busy fishing—spin the wheel to see what he catches. Will it be a fish, a crab, or will he be less lucky and land an old boot? Autumn is apple harvesting time, and while Maisy is busy picking (look out for the cheeky cat hiding in the tree!), Cyril the Squirrel unearths other objects along with the vegetables--a turn of the wheel reveals a long-forgotten dog's bone. Winter, inevitably, is a snow scene--lift the flap to reveal the snow-mouse that Maisy and her friends are building. Can you find the penguin's hiding place? The book concludes with Maisy drawing pictures of things that she enjoys doing all year round whatever the weather—including cooking, dancing and (incomprehensible to most adults) cleaning.

This sturdy board book is illustrated in Cousins' distinctive colourful, blocky style that's so appealing to young children. It's also a useful aid to promoting discussion with youngsters about the different seasons and will get them thinking about fun things they like to do themselves. Suitable for ages 0-4 years.--Alison Drury

Format:Hardcover
This is a very large book and is one of my childrens favourite Maisy books along with Maisy's first flap book (another very large Maisy Book).

There are 10 main pages:
Page 1/2 Spring with lots of baby animals like birds, kittens, snails and bats hiding underneath flaps.
Page 3/4 Summer with Maisy, Tallulah and Charlie at the seaside. This page features a spinning wheel which changes the item Charlie is catching with his fishing rod. My children found this too difficult to turn by themselves but they enjoyed having a go and with a little help the wheel is easily turned.
Page 5/6 Autumn sees Maisy and Cyril in the Garden with some lovely autumnal coloured illustrations picking apples and digging up crops. The wheel on this page turns to change the items Cyril is digging up. Some suprise items are bound to delight young children.
Page 7/8 Winter shows Charlie, Maisy and Tallulah playing in the snow with life the flap action to throw snowballs etc.
Page 9/10 has more flaps showing what Maisy likes to do all year round.

This book is very good for teaching very young children about seasons and the movement of the wheels and the action and movement illustrated by lifting the flaps is very educational.

Highly recommended but perhaps 'My First Flap Book' is slightly better in this range.
