Product Description

The romantic (sort of) comedy Maison Ikkoku, from beloved creator Rumiko Takahashi (InuYasha and Ranma 1/2), is presented in a new version in its original episodic order! Travel into Japan's nuttiest apartment house and meet its volatile inhabitants: Kyoko, the beautiful and mysterious new apartment manager; Yusaku, the exam-addled college student; Mrs. Ichinose, the drunken gossip; Kentaro, her bratty son; Akemi, the boozy bar hostess; and the mooching and peeping Mr. Yotsuya. How can Yusaku and Kyoko ever be alone when the motley crew at Maison Ikkoku are always inviting themselves to every get-together and social event? When Kyoko and Yusaku finally have some one-on-one time, their housemates' gossip and meddling leads them to learn the hard way that home is where the heart is!

About the Author

When Rumiko Takahashi was 17 years old, her interest in comics was limited to reading them and occasionally copying a character in the margins. Fourteen years later, after the runaway success of such comics series as Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and Ranma 1/2, she is arguably Japan's favorite comics artist, with close to 50 million copies of her books in print.

Anyone for tennis? 2 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was pleased to see this cover as I'm interested in how tennis would be portrayed. How nice to see that on page 4&5 of the Japanese version,Kyoko leaning full tilt into a shot,'KPOK'and then with her hand on her hip, towelling herself down.Mrs Ichinose is there too, stirring things up.Also, why do Japanese artists draw panels at an angle ?I like it a lot.I grew up with boring old Western art and just marvel....ahem....at a master's way of portraying an image. The tennis is a good trend and gets the story out the confines of Maison Ikkoku apartments.Has anyone else noticed that Kyoko is the only woman wearing a pleated skirt? She sure stands out.We get to see a bit more about coach Mitaka and see the potential for misunderstandings brought about by the other members of the tennis club.Kyoko's parents play their part too. Then Kyoko gets drunk and Godai carries her home only to get strangled. There's a festival (page 96/97) and yukatas get worn and Mitaka has TWO pretty women on his arms, lucky devil. It must have taken some time to draw the detail on the yukatas.I hope it was a labour of love.I sure liked them.Godai moves out of Ikkoku to a cheap apartment but has to share with the previous couple as they can't afford to move out. She's a masseuse,he's a bully.Kyoko finds out and wants Godai to move back but doesn't show it outwardly.Even so,events conspire to help it come about.Good chase on page 238 where Kyoko snags Godai. There's a lot of detail of the town in the distance too, well done Rumiko.
