5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" book for any manual therapy student!, 17 Sep 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Maintaining Body Balance, Flexibility & Stability: A Practical Guide to the Prevention & Treatment of Musculoskeletal Pain & Dysfunction: A Practical ... of Musculoskeletal Pain and Dysfunction (Spiral-bound)
Maintaining body balance, flexibility and stability is probably the best book I've bought this year!! Excellent layout, large, clear photos, beautifully illustrated diagrams, and very practically oriented. As with Leon Chaitow's other books (for example Clinical Application of Neuromuscular techniques), one muscle is discussed at a time. Inside the back cover are some very handy 'cue-cards' that you can photocopy and give to patients as reminders. Also, lots of 'clinical gems' in the book. Interesting read (i.e. user-friendly) combined with truly practical info (tests, stretches etc) that will help your patients get better. I thought the price was very reasonable. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to chiropractic, physiotherapy, or osteopathic students.

This review is from: Maintaining Body Balance, Flexibility & Stability: A Practical Guide to the Prevention & Treatment of Musculoskeletal Pain & Dysfunction: A Practical ... of Musculoskeletal Pain and Dysfunction (Spiral-bound)
As the title suggests it is a book which helps you understand postural and core stability problems, the role they play in back pain etc and what you can do to help maintain or regain your own posture.
The book also comes with a set of free to photocopy cards which are very useful to give to clients, they explain simply how your client can carry out stretches including MET in their own time and speed recovery, it is expecially good for chronic problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference, 14 Mar 2007

This review is from: Maintaining Body Balance, Flexibility & Stability: A Practical Guide to the Prevention & Treatment of Musculoskeletal Pain & Dysfunction: A Practical ... of Musculoskeletal Pain and Dysfunction (Spiral-bound)
Chaitow's testing and treatment methods are presented clearly and with instructions which make this manual suitable for in-home use. The text gives the rationale for the exercises and contains abundant explanatory photographs and illustrations. The information, while presented in a user-friendly, manner is technical enough for use by the health care professional. This is a valuable resource for any self-care or professional health care library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great client self help book, 2 May 2006

This book is not only informative, but has great teaching aids in it. There are several laminated pages in the back of the book with several stretches and muscle energy techniques to increase flexibility and range of motion in several diferent body areas.
Dr. Chaitow has even graciously printed 'ok to copy' on these self help pages.
