Product Description

Goodness me, is that the time? At Gadgetshop HQ, we've seen alarm clocks that display. Alarm clocks you can control with a wave of your hand. Alarm clocks that go off like an incendiary bomb. Alarm clocks that shake the very bed beneath you. Now behold that alarm clock that actually takes to the air. Golly. Picture the scene. It's 0545 and time you were on your way to that all-important client presentation in Leicester. But rousing you from your slumber is no easy task. But with the flying alarm clock at your side, there's no risk of spending even a nanosecond longer in your bed than intended. Not unless you wish the very hounds of hell to descend upon your room. Allow us to explain. On activation, the alarm clock device launches a whirling projectile into the air, a propeller-driven 'key' that briefly hovers before settling somewhere in your boudoir. Your challenge is to retrieve said key and dock it back on its base station before it goes off with the sound of the master alarm in a submarine that's just come under attack. Leave it a second too late and you, your partner, chums and neighbours will know all about your laggardliness. In so doing, of course, you're out of bed, searching the floor on your hands and knees in the dark, and perhaps even resorting to putting the light on. And ta-da! You're awake, and cursing bitterly under your breath. Suddenly a hot shower and a decent cuppa seems like a good idea. Tempus fugit, as they say in Amersham.

I bought one of these as a gift for my sister at Christmas as she is useless with early mornings. It was OK for a cheap Christmas present, but not very good at flying. There are videos of this unit going around on the internet (which I had seen prior to buying) and it basically flies up and straight back down so it is easy to just pick it up and turn the alarm clock off by slotting the flying unit back into the base unit.

Also it makes a loud noise prior to taking off. The alarm and flight can still be turned off at that point by pushing down on it. A decent stocking filler, but not worth buying otherwise.

Overall it is dissapointing item. According to the description the little helicopter-like part of the clock should fly around the room. Because the alarm is very loud and it doesn't stop till you replace that piece in theory you should be forced out of the bed to find it. However in practice the "flying piece" starts spinning rising about 10cm off the clock and falls onto the floor. So at the end you can easily switch it off without getting out of the bed. The idea is brilliant but it doesn't work...

guess how it works 16 Nov 2008
It really does fly but it has incredibly uninformative packaging. If you try it with an adaptor it will break and it only comes with a manufacturer address, no email or telephone number. My advice would be don't be surprised if it breaks and once you've got it onto the right time and alarm, leave it alone.

a brilliant alarm clock, unfortunately it loses time fairly quickly, which is strange, but guarantees an exciting wake-up each morning. Even bought one for my sister!
