As this was on promo I thought I would give it a go, and I am very glad I did. Emily Johnson is divorced and has been persuaded to help her uncle out on the island of Kauai by the dancing troupe of the Tiki Goddess Bar, which her uncle owns. Led to believe that he is losing his memory, she finds that it isn't as bad as she was led to believe, but since she has been working the tiki bar the takings have improved.

It starts with the neighbour being found dead in the bar's barbecue pit, and it soon becomes apparent that he was killed beforehand. With the barmaid, Sophie, being the prime suspect the dance troupe, the Hula Maidens and Emily try to help her out. With another murder, and a couple of abductions, will the Hula Maidens be able to find the murderer before the police, who are flummoxed?

The mystery element here is good, but ultimately not too hard to solve, but what really grabs your attention are the characters. The youngest Hula Maiden must be middle-aged, and none of them are very good dancers. There is a lot of gentle comedy here and at times you actually forget that this is a mystery as you get carried along and caught up in the Tiki Goddess Bar. There are also a few recipes for cocktails at the back of this book as well. If you like something that is fun to read, whilst giving your brain a bit of a workout, then this is an ideal cosy mystery.

I downloaded this one because I love the Mai Tai cocktail,
and like the drink once started could not put it down.
The Tiki Goddess Bar,Em,Uncle Louie,The Hula Maidens and of course
the hunky Roland what more could you ask for.
I loved the book with its Hawaiian detail,Ifelt as though I was there
with everyone.
Jill has been very descriptive without getting bogged down with
too much unnecessary detail.
I will be looking out for the next book.

MAI TAI ONE ON doesn't stop whipping the reader along for a second. All the characters are so real and you want to know what happens to them. Mystery rears its head on page one and I had difficulty not laughing even while I was doing my usual attempt at solving the crime. The background is absolutely alive and fabulous. I felt I was surrounded by palms and flowers with everything looking idyllic on the surface while intrigue, sensuality and the drive for survival (without losing a sense of humor) bubbles along just under all those Mai Tai umbrellas. What fun!

Finding a body in the emu pit was just the beginning of this fun romp through Kauai. I loved the Maidens and Uncle Louie. Em is the glue holding these crazy characters together and laughing out loud while reading this is a must. Can't wait for the second in this series!

This is the first book of Jill's that I have read. It was recommended to me on Facebook. I was originally drawn to it because it was based on a Hawaiian island. We honeymooned touring the islands. I was immediately hooked. The characters were very interesting and funny. The plot had many twists and turns. It made me laugh and kept my interest throughout the entire book. The interaction between Em and her uncle Louie and the Maidens made me laugh I can't wait until the next book.
