Product Description

A biography of the prophet Muhammed, told by interviews with a number of Muslims, whilst academics illuminate further sections of the story.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: Arabic ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), French ( Subtitles ), German ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Mahomet (Mohammed) son of Abdullah; was born in Mecca in about 571 A.D. He was orphaned at the age of six and was brought up to be a merchant, the traditional occupation of the prestigious Hashemite clan to which he belonged. In 610, when he was 40, Mohammed had a vision of an angel and received his first divine revelation. From then on, he spent all his time preaching, proclaiming his faith to ever-larger audiences from Mecca to Medina until his death in 632. The prophet's biography is told via rare interviews with a number of Muslims, including imams, whilst academics from the Arab world and beyond shed further light on various sections of the narrative. With the aid of calligraphic manuscripts, Ottoman illuminations and sequences filmed in the mosques and Koran schools, this epic documentary demonstrates the vast importance of the prophet whose life-story is inextricably woven into the Koran, the sacred text on which Islam is founded. 1.Towards Prophethood (52') 2.The Revelation (52') 3.Medina and the Law (52') 4. Mecca and Power (52') 5. The Koran (52') ...Mohammed (2001) ( Mahomet )

5.0 out of 5 stars Think for yourself and stay positive! 9 Jan 2007
Format:DVD
This is certainly one of the better DVD/Documentaries out there! It takes a more historically critical and evaluative approach and attempts to shed more light on what is known to be a fairly sketchy event in history. Btw[This is the main view of most researchers in this field].

There is a good balance of serious discussion including some of the controversial events, and a more lighter approach ie; reciting of quran by children inside a mosque! But also throughout the film, a great deal of ordinary muslims, Traditional scholars and Imams discuss and narrate in a number of groups, stories about the life of Muhammed.

It moves along at a comfortable pace and always in interesting and beatiful places! Whoever has an interest in Muhammed and the emergence of Islam in Arabia should consider getting this DVD!!

Format:DVD
This film not only contains gross historical and factual errors, it contain a string of misrepresentations. You are better of with another good title such as 'The legacy of the Prophet', Inside Islam - Discovery Channel', 'Islam - Empire of Faith', 'Haj - National Geographic'. (All are available from Amazon).

My copy has gone in the bin, that is where it belongs. I did however cringe and watch all of 6 hours of it, Why?
